Thanks in advance for any insight on this. ...Brian After spending too much time searching pondering various solutions***, I decided to do the (WinXP) Control Panel: Add or Remove Programs on Seamonkey ver 2.X.X (I thought I'd try, even though the program was not there: http://pages.sbcglobal.net/bjweiss/SMfolder.jpg ) The uninstall seemed to work, and I noticed that the Add or Remove Programs window seemed to indicate that Seamonkey ver 1.1.7 was still there. Since I no longer had Seamonkey Icons anywhere, I searched for the directory where the 1.1.7 files were located (C:\Program Files\mozilla.org\SeaMonkey) and created a shortcut to the seamonkey.exe file. BINGO!! Everything was there! I have 6 email profiles, many news servers in one, etc. and they all work. (I'm glad I didn't remove 1.1.7 before going ahead with the upgrade to 2.x.x. I unchecked -check for new software upgrades- box in case I accidentally click on it ... I'll be staying with ver 1.1.7 for a lllonnggg time. Again, thanks to those who answered to give me feedback. Brian *** potential solutions were: 1) rename the dozens of ver 2.x.x. moz.backup files in multiple seamonkey sub-directories 2) Try a fresh ver 2.x.x download install 3) just delete the program files\seamonkey directory and try step 20 4) install Opera, Outlook or even Thunderbird and try some of the above steps... 5) and on and on and on... . ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey

Thanks for the info. After checking my home laptop, I have Symantec AV Corporate Edition (ver 10). I checked the logs, etc. -- nothing in Quarantine, etc. (set to do a Quick Scan on computer Startup. SAS MWB: SAS last scan activity, November, 2010. MWB: Last activity, March, 2010. So I don't think any of these programs are the culprit. Fortunately, I still have Seamonkey version 1.1.9 on two other computers, so I still can extract some of the saved emails profile/newsgroup info. I'm hesitant to go ahead and do a new re-install of seamonkey 2 on this (WindowsXT,SP3) laptop at this point in time (of which I have none! I'm supposed to be doing Xmas online shopping but I'm having ATT-DSL problems at the same time, which I've been putting off dealing with -Just keep re-booting the Modem to get an new IP ... temproarily fixes the problem. Also, even to post to this group I have to VPN RDP to my work desktop (after rebooting the DSL modem one or more times...). Sorry for the rant... I've been using seamonkey because of the multiple profile feature (I started with Netscape Communicator, years ago...) ...Brian -- ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey
AAAAAAARGGG stupid stupid - Version 2
I finally clicked on that box that always popped up, asking me to do the Seamonkey upgrade. I thought it would be a quick/minor upgrade procedure as in the past. (I had version 1.???; the upgrade was 2.??) I should have become suspicious, when it presented me with all my existing profiles (with a radio button selector rather than check boxes). Once the upgrade was done, all but one of my profiles (emails, newsgroups, setup info for groups emails, etc) were gone. There was no undo key. I have no time to troubleshoot this. I was stupid to click on the upgrade box. I guess email profiles are being phased out? I haven't had time to research this in this group or other sources. (I just joined this newsgroup after the unfortunate upgrade; It's late, I should be snoozing now). Anyone have any ideas on how to recover my lost profiles, emails, etc?? if possible. Thanks in advance, Brian ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey

S. Beaulieu wrote: BJD a écrit : Once the upgrade was done, all but one of my profiles (emails, newsgroups, setup info for groups emails, etc) were gone. There was no undo key. That's the standard behaviour. Only one profile from SeaMonkey 1.x is migrated to SeaMonkey 2.0.10 automatically. You need to import the other ones manually. Don't fret: it's easy: see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_migration_-_SeaMonkey S. Ok! This looks promising. Thanks much for the link. I'll give it a try when I get a few spare moments ...Brian ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey
