'Dictionaries'.  On my wife's laptop, before the SM version update,
she'd complained about only having the English (US) language
available for spell-checking, which causes issues whenever composing
emails for UK recipients.

On that laptop, I've added the latest Marco Pinto Dictionary v2.90
from the Add-Ons site, but it only lists as an Extension, not a
Dictionary, so can't be selected for spell-checking.

That happens if you install a WebExtension-based dictionary in
SeaMonkey, as mentioned under "Extensions (Add-ons) and Themes" in the
release notes.  It seems even the ones hosted on
addons.thunderbird.net may be WebExtensions now but don't work with
SeaMonkey - see e.g.

I'm currently using v2.68 of British English Dictionary (Marco Pinto).
You can download older versions by following the "See complete version
history" link near the bottom of
<https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-GB/seamonkey/addon/british-english-dictionary-2/>.
There, 2.68 is explicitly mentioned as being a legacy extension, and
there's mention of this 2.70 already being a WebExtension.  It's not
clear which 2.69 is, so that might perhaps work, or it might be that
2.68 is the last that works in current SeaMonkey.

If you right-click the "Download Now" button, you can select "Save
Link Target As..." to download the .xpi file for the extension rather
than immediately installing it.  That way you've got it in case you
need to install it again in future.  From about:addons, you can
install an extension from an .xpi file by clicking the cog icon near
the top right and selecting "Install Add-on From File..."

On my own laptop, the v2.68 installed doesn't appear to have any
means of updating as-is, but it is working as expected.

It might be that's the latest which actually works with SeaMonkey.  Or
it may be related to the fact that update checks for the main
application don't work.  As far as I can see, 2.69 is the only newer
version which might possibly work - so you could try downloading and
installing that as above, but be prepared to revert back to 2.68 if it
doesn't work.

So it looks like I have 2 separate issues.  Any suggestions?

Mark, etc,
Now that I've had time to try, I've downloaded v2.68 and (?)successfully
installed it into my wife's laptop.  It shows up in the Add-On Mgr
screen as a loaded Dictionary, but is not available to select anywhere.
Whether composing a new email or as the default language under
Properties - Appearance - Spelling, the only entry in her SM v2.53.5
install is for the default English-US.  And of course, the link for 'add
more dictionaries' takes me to the Thunderbird add-ons download page,
for what that's worth.

I really don't want to abandon SM, but if my English wife can't compose
emails in her own language in the mail client, what's the point?  I've
been a loyal Netscape/Mozilla/SM user for some time, but I'm not a
developer.  My skill set is in system administration, not programming.

My thanks to all who replied with additional suggestions, but it has
been sorted, finally. Not only did the v2.68 install didn't work even
after SM and then the laptop restarts, but attempting to use the
'download more dictionaries' link didn't do anything--no web page, no
nothing. With no other changes, I installed v2.53.5.1 on top of the
current setup, and the v2.68 English-UK dictionary is now listed as
such, and is now set as the default. Composition tests with spell check
work as you'd expect, that way.
I have no idea what was corrupted, but the latest install did something
and all is now well.

By go away meaning?

1) You don't have Events & Tasks in the Menu bar.
2) You don't see it in the Add-ons Manager.
3) Have Events & Tasks in the Menu bar, but didn't select it and
then select Calendar.

4) Other

You may want to peruse the Known Issues section in the release notes
on Lightning and other distributed extensions not appearing.

<https://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/seamonkey2.53.4/>

Walt - it is #1 and #3.

I did look at 'Known Issues' and did not see any reference there
unless it was glaring right at me and I could not see it... which is
possible, for sure.

TIA - bo1953

Bo1953, try this:
*-in the browser, type in the address bar: 'about:config' & see the
tab contents change to a list of text lines

*-in the search frame above the listings, copy/paste this setting name:

'extensions.installedDistroAddon.{e2fda1a4-762b-4020-b5ad-a41df1933103}'
and press 'Enter'

*-in the tab, see only a line which begins with what you searched for
*-right-click on that entry, and select 'Reset' from the menuSamua
*-open the Mail window, verify 'Events and Tasks' menu item is visible
*-Click on Events and Tasks, then select 'Calendar' from the menu
*-Verify the calendar appears in a new tab in the Mail window

Since the first release where Lightning was included be default, I
occasionally have issues when installing a newer version of SM, where
the extension checker plugin doesn't like Lightning so wants to
disable/remove it.  When I reset that setting, all is well again.

RicklesP,

Thank you for the recommendation.

That line of code does not exist (that I can find) in my system, so this
has left me perplexed.

Shall I re-install SM?

TIA - bo1953

Bo1953,
Silly question: when you copy/pasted the string value I gave previously,
that starts with "extensions.", did you by chance include the leading
and trailing single-quote marks as well? If so, nothing will show up.
Failing that, the about:config listing is normally sorted alphabetically
by the Preference Name column, so you should be able to simply scroll
down to see the entry, if it's there. On my default SM install of
v2.53.4, I have 3 entries that begin "extensions.installedDistroAddon.",
so you should see SOMETHING like that in yours.

As for reinstalling SM, I just install the newer versions on top of
whatever previous is already in place, and other than this Lightning
glitch, don't have any issues. I'd say you probably won't have any
problems, but by all means back up your info as the first step, just in
case.

Events calendar grouped with Mail tab?

2020-09-25 Thread RicklesP
Now that Lightning is packaged with SeaMonkey (thank you!!), and
selecting the Events & Tasks 'Calendar' option opens a second tab in the
Mail window for that calendar along with the Mail tab, is there a way to
set the Mail view so that both open as a group, same as can be done with
multiple tabs in the web browser? Can't find anything in the GUI for this.

In the "href=" part, there are a couple of spaces between the opening
quote and the start of the URL. A quick experiment sending myself an
email with:

   http://www.example.com/;>Click Here
has exactly the effect you describe - the text is recognised as a link
(blue underline and cursor changes to a hand), but the URL is not
recognised (not shown in the status bar, and clicking has no effect).
Note that I had to manually craft that email, since inserting a link
SeaMonkey's HTML mail editor strips the extra spaces from the href!

An HTML document with the same link opened in SeaMonkey's browser works
fine, and clicking it leads to .

The HTML5 specification [1] says that the value of the href attribute
must be "a valid URL potentially surrounded by spaces". I haven't found
a clear statement in specs for earlier HTML versions.

Although the unnecessary presence of those spaces in the href is a bit
odd, it appears they shouldn't strictly cause any problem so the fact
they do may be a bug in SeaMonkey mail (which isn't present in the
browser). The difference in behaviour between mail and browser does seem
a bit odd, as I thought they used the same rendering engine, so perhaps
this is intentional for some reason.

Possibly related to bug 680352, in that whatever blocks links without a
protocol might also block links with the leading spaces (since the link
doesn't start with a protocol). That may well be intentional as a
security protection, since a link to "www.example.com" actually
references a file relative to the email, not "http://www.example.com;!

[1]

Makes perfect sense, syntax is everything in text-based media. That
explains the second email, don't suppose you have any insights for the
first one I described, with [x] references called out in the html code?

Casting from SM?

2017-08-31 Thread RicklesP
Apologies if this had been covered previously but my searches have come
up empty. Be sure, I love SM and have done for many years.

User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64; rv:51.0) Gecko/20100101
Firefox/51.0 SeaMonkey/2.48

I am interested in casting content from my browser on this tablet device
to the smart TVs in my house. The Add-ons searches have discovered a
few Cast options, but none even mentioning SM, only FF. Anyone have any
experience with making one of them work with SM? I have Chrome
installed but only use it for that one thing.
