'Authentication failed' when using POP3 with Hotmail

2010-09-06 Thread MalcolmO
I've just set up a new Hotmail account and I created the new account in
SeaMonkey but all I get is authentication failed. Server is
pop3.live.com, port is 995, password is right. What's the problem? TIA

What's the problem?

The problem is that in the Account Settings, in Server Settings, in the
User Name textbox, the username _must_ include @hotmail.com. And then,
it works.

Wiseguy answer: You're using Hotmail!!!

Serious answer: Wrong username?

Some ISPs want to see the fully qualified email address, some want the
prefix only. Are you giving this one what it wants?
