What happened here? I've been playing YouTube videos full screen
for years without difficulty, even after this thread began, but the
moment I upgraded to 2.35 I lost that capability. Has someone filed
a bug?

Youtube changed something a few weeks ago. The full screen
expando-square icon on 2.26.1 stopped working at that time.
I can still get full screen by right clicking but several on 2.35 said
they just get a black screen.

Mm-hm, I saw that, but I didn't experience any change until I upgraded.
I don't get the black screen, just a little note in the video pane
saying FS is unavailable, with a link "Learn More" to a page that
doesn't solve it.

I don't have any special permissions set for YouTube.

If YouTube changed something a few weeks ago, it was something that
didn't affect me until 2.35.

I tried that, and it doesn't work for me. Yes, it goes to full screen, but the
screen is
completely black, except for a white "X" in the upper right corner of the
screen for
getting out of that mode. And the video will not play, unless you get out of
that mode.

Ouch. Might want to try it in safemode.

Try using function key F11 at the top of your keyboard.

Works fine if you hide the toolbars first. Otherwise you get a full
screen with toolbars at top.

If you enable full-screen-api.enabled, any web page that tries to force
the browser window to full screen will be able to do that, and that is
something that drives me crazy. I think it is a prerogative that
belongs to me, and only me.

Another thing that bugs me about HTML5 is its habit of defaulting to the
lowest possible resolution, whereas Flash defaults to the highest just
below HD.

I really dislike HTML5 on YouTube auto-starting when the page gets
loaded. If Flashblock is set to block HTML5, that is blocked completely
on YouTube, so Flashblock must be turned off when you want to play the
video. It has a toolbar button that allows you to do that, but it is
still a hassle.
