PrefBar - that was the name of it.
I finally found it in the ADDons Manager - turned OFF !
When I loaded the Mozilla "AutoOn/OFF" thing, it boogered up what I
was using !
WHY ?  This sucks quite a lot !  I am trying not to SWEAR here right

Why would adding that Auto-on/off go in and change my setup ?
MOZILLA ?!

You have PrefBar installed.
Added the Autoplay Toggle extension from

That broke PrefBar?

Broke it ?  It disabled PrefBar.  Why would it do that ?

I had to go back and re-enable PrefBar - after I came across it by
accident.
i.e. - I am NOT an aficionado of all this plugins and extensions
business.  I barely understand
all the menus and actions and how to interact with them.  Programs do
not "wear out' -
something got in there and boogered Autoplay  up.  Then Autoplay's
installer boogered up

my PrefBar.  What's next ?

I installed both a long time ago and they were working fine for several
years.

Then when I re-installed the Autoplay AGAIN (it had stopped working for
some reason),

THAT disabled my PrefBar.
That kind of baloney causes people to distrust the software and the
makers of the software.
Unless you are UP on this stuff on a daily basis, you get lost in the
minutia of it.

I suppose the cause of this all is ENTROPY having it's way with us.

Thanks for the clarification.

It wasn't clear to me what you were describing.

I try to live without extensions.

You have to complain to the extension developers that don't keep up with
the browser or mail application changes.

Try a different autoplay toggle. There is a restartless one in the
Thunderbird addons site that causes no problems.

I have discovered a few situations where two different extensions (not
plug-ins) were mutually incompatible. These situations are very, very
few; but they are extremely annoying because they are often hard to
diagnose. The probem arises because an extension's author can easily
test against the host application (e.g., SeaMonkey) but cannot know
which (of dozens and dozens) other extensions will also be installed.

Because of my experience as a software test engineer (30+ years before
retiring), I do indeed test and test again until I find which extensions
conflict with each other to cause the problem. I then notify the
authors of both extensions of the problem, describing the symptoms.

If neither author accepts responsibility to fix his or her extension, I
must then decide which extension is more important to me than the other.
I then delete the less important one.
