I have occasional problems with my trackball as well, as it is shared
via a KVM switch. Perhaps you would find it more consistent to use the
keyboard and hit the "Delete" key instead? Keyboard shortcuts can be
very helpful when your mouse is less than reliable.

Yes, I've put a tag on the 'Delete' key! But rotator cuff surgery may
make it hard to reach for a while!

Wireless mouse has a dying battery?

The mouse itself is going defunct?

Ironicly mouse has a wire/tail! It could be a bounce in the left button
as unlikely as that seems.

Sometimes a cleaning will suffice. It worked for me less than a week ago for
erratic RMB making it hard to get context menus to stay open. Disassemble.
Use compressed air. Reassemble.

Vacuum or used compressed air on USB ports to remove dust. If it's heavy,
likely the inside of both PC and power supply are due for dust removal as well.

Also, weak USB or PS/2 connection - power down, then remove & reinsert,
wiggle, use contact cleaner, etc.

I have a brand new wireless bluetooth mouse that has started doing that
or double clicks when I play Solsuite. I have went back to my old one
and no problem.

Do not move the cursor when deleting or clicking anything. With a
trackball, it is much easier to avoid movement when clicking, since you
can lift your fingers off the ball before clicking a button, and that
has become habit.
