I wish I could say that. Ever since the Toggle Word Wrap extension quit working,
text editing and plain text email composition has been an abomination, and since
2.48, tabs with previously opened LAN files will not restore on restart or via
back or forward buttons.

I notice you and rickman are running 64 bit Windows.
The last time I used SM 2.40 on Windows XP I never saw the problem.

My current OS is the i386 build of Debian 9.1 (Stretch) and SeaMonkey
User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:51.0) Gecko/20100101
Firefox/51.0 SeaMonkey/2.48

Build identifier: 20170706221455

I've been using the Linux flavor of SeaMonkey since 2014 without problems.

If you are still on 2.46 try 2.49.1

The TB devs fixes several race conditions. Before 2.49 I had numerous
problems with crashes and other anomalies. Mostly with an imap account
but news should also benefit.

I doubt very much SeaMonkey is the culprit.
I date back to days of Netscape 4.? and have not had a similar problem.

As a workaround I would suggest going to "Server Settings" for the
affected news server. Record the information listed for "newsrc file:
and "Local directory:". Then, with SeaMonkey shutdown, routinely backup
that file and that directory.
