Huh? When I click on a link, it opens a new browser window.

Same with me, Mark, and by the time I've switched back to the
main/newsgroup screen to give a second click, it's as though I've just
given a second single click.

Now, if the browser page could be opening in the back ground..!

Press F7 to go into caret browsing mode. Use the keyboard cursor keys to
move it to where you want to start,

OK until here, but then ...

highlight the text you want to copy,

... how? No luck with my SM 2.1 to highlight only the 'am'. With the
mouse. Another way to select i don't know of? Hm.

Ah. Shift + Cursor-right. :)

CTRL-C,

Not necessary. It's already done with highlighting. Now a middle-mouse
click to insert. I'm on Linux.

Understandable from the context. At least i hope so. *g*

multi-line wrapped link. It seems more an artifact of the way
click-and-drag selection works than a feature.

To be sure, I never missed this functionality... but if the community
thinks it's a worthy enhancement, a better way would be to use a
modified click-and-drag. Such as, right-click-and-drag, or
alt-click-and-drag or whatever combination is still available -- in this
mode the browser would ignore the link and behave as if it were normal text.

And, by the way... wouldn't this be a core (Gecko) enhancement?

I guess, yes.

Sorry, Hartmut, but your link is invalid, so I cannot go to that website
and select some arbitrary text.

Sure, that is only an example which points to no website. ;)

But I see your point.why would someone want to do that??

Sometimes i also need a part of a link. In such a case i open the source
from which selecting only a part is possible without problems.

Would be nice if i could avoid this step. :-D

Or select the complete line ctrl-c then ctrl-v in notepad, then select
the part you want.
I do it this way, because i most of the time did not need to copy a
part of a link.

1. I will not play with a clean profile because i doubt about
2. I will not fill a bug ...because .. it will stay open forever.
3. I can work with the current behaviour, because i never need to select
and arbitrary text from a link.
4. I have a good working detour ..copy then paste the full sentence
containing the link into notepad, where i can extract what i will.
