Engaging Google Gears and HTML-5 features in older OSes
Greetings. Is there any way to coax SM 1.8 (or FF 2.0) to use Google Gears so that I can use Zoho Writer's compose off-line feature among others in a OSX Panther G3? I know technically it's supposed to be a non-no, but are there any bold underground haxie tricks to allow it? Also, though I know it's going to be phased out for HTML-5, will SM also accomplish this and will it still regard us soon-orphaned (i.e. Firefox) G4 Tiger users as well? Thanks! In each case, the three toolbar appearance options under Edit/Preferences/Appearance (Show toolbars as) has no effect on the toolbars. In one case the toolbar is displayed as Pictures Only (my preference). On the other laptop it's displayed as Pictures and text. Disabling all the extensions has no effect, nor does renaming user.js or userChrome.css. I also tried reinstalling the program ovr itself, but no luck there either. Starting in Safe Mode does correct the problem. I obviously did something wrong to bring this about - don't have any idea what. Right click on a blank space on (e.g.) the navigation toolbar. Select Settings for this toolbar. Pick your options. Repeat for each toolbar you want to change. The bookmarks toolbar is a bit tricky since the bookmark right-click menu usually overrides that menu. I normally right click on the left edge of that toolbar (near the home button). Phil Thanks Phil. I had pretty much resigned myself to a clean reinstall, but that fixed the problem.
