FEATURE REQUEST: email in new tab (just like opera)

2011-04-12 Thread Viliam Kubis
... the only thing holding me back from switching to SeaMonkey. Any plans
to implement it in the future? Please? :)

Also see this topic, started by me, navigaring to chrome URL works good
but is unstable, maybe only little modifications are needed to make it
fully operational?

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=2138153

I'd like to hear some technical / practical implementation details about
this, thank you.

Of course as an option, not fixed for everybody. You could choose whether
to open the mail client in the traditional way (new window) or in new tab.

Re: FEATURE REQUEST: email in new tab (just like opera)

2011-04-12 Thread Viliam Kubis
That's a matter of perspective. Sure the email client is somethig
completely different than a web page in a browser tab, but I think I'm not
the only one who would like to have their email client in a new tab right
next to their open webpages. I, for my self, am used to tabbed browsing in
such an extent that when I receive a new email in seamonkey I go:

- ok, now, where's that webpage I want to copy something from? Oh, it's in
a new window. Ok, click there. Now click on the webpage's tab. Information
copied.
- now where's that email I am writing? I see, different window again.
Switch & paste.

That's just my personal habits, and of course it requires only a little of
concentration to realise that the email is actually in a different window,
but when you try to do things fast and you do not have a lot of time, you
rely on your personal habits, preferences and experiences to perform
specific actions to complete your task. So many times that I work in
seamonkey and have 15 tabs open, I spend a couple of seconds looking at
them and searching for "that email tab" before realising "aha, it's a
different window".

I would not be asking to implement this "out of the blue", but seeing that
entering chrome://messenger/content/messenger.xul in the address bar in a
new tab actually opens the email client that partially *works*, but
crashes upon many common actions, made me thinking that maybe it's not
that difficult to implement from the development perspective / in terms of
code. Maybe there are few places in the code of the messenger that rely on
"i'm sure i'm in a window, so call it's xxx method / perform action x". Of
course I have never seen mozilla rendering engine and/or any part of the
seamonkey code, so that's why I would like to hear some pros and cons of
the concept, in terms of code / development costs and not personal
preferences whether this feature is practical or not.

I realise that there are many more important goals in the seamonkey
project than this one, but it's just a feature request that I think many
people (including me) would find convenient.

Thank you

This look inconsistent.
Mail is not another web page, it's completely different.
Opera is wrong - he mixed two different things: an object and a
collection of objects ...

Re: FEATURE REQUEST: email in new tab (just like opera)

2011-04-13 Thread Viliam Kubis
Ok, so there are about 50% to 50% negative and positive comments on this
feature request, I think it's really worth implementing folks :)

Also, consider this: when you are using gmail WEB interface, you basically
have your email in a new tab. Why not have seamonkey mail client in a new
tab? To many people, it would make a significant improvement. Of course to
use gmail web interface you could just be using any other browser, but we
all know, that seamonkey email client is better, faster, and what's more
important - built in. Why toss it away in a different window?

Now I'm actually wondering, if those that displayed 100% negative attitude
towards this change, were actually the developers of seamonkey.

And if not, if any developer of seamonkey has to say anything regarding
this issue [in terms of development costs, please].

Thanks

I like it. It also possibly resolves an issue with netbook screen issues
in the "New & Improved (sarcasm)" Ubuntu Unity desktop.

No! No! No! No!

It bad enough to deal with tabs in web Browser. We don't need such
silliness in email.

Tabs ROCK!!!

Re: Errors with YouTube

I'm getting this as well, if I open developer console and check the network tab
every like, removelike, dislike, comment_action, user menu, add to watch later,
subscribe etc returns 401 unauthorized. I don't know why, these problems
started around april first. I just upgraded to 2.53.1 to see if it would
resolve the issue, but no.

I've also tried signing out (which does work on video upload screen, also user
menu works there) and signing back in, but that didn't help as well.

Comparing the requests witch chrome's, they doesn't seem much different. Going
to dig further.

Setting user agent to firefox 60 doesn't help, also firefox 61, 62, and from 63
onwards we get window.customElements is undefined - and the whole page is
broken.

Oh, thank you! :) So youtube in chrome until then only? Or maybe if we force
one of the old designs somehow? It was possible in the past. Let me look it up.

Setting general.useragent.override.youtube.com to "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT
10.0; Win64; x64; rv:68.9) Gecko/20100101 Goanna/4.4 Firefox/68.9
PaleMoon/28.8.0" temporarily works, althrough youtube displays "we'll stop
supporting this browser soon". This gives you back one of the old layouts,
almost the same you get with ?disable_polymer=true query parameter. But you
have to append that every time, I think there's an extension for that, but I
didn't try.

Yes, that one also gives you the old layout for now :) New layout still 401 on

Voting or subscribing actually doesn't work, althrough it appears it does. Just
subscribe and give thumbs up to video or comment, refresh and your actions are
gone. Also if you open developer tools and watch XHR requests your actions will
end up with 401 (unauthorized).
