If it's a horizontal-only rig, it's usually best to aim the speakers at the
centre since this means that, at least at the centre, people will be in a
similar part of the frequency dependent polar diagram of the speakers,
simplifying any eq needed and reducing the tendency for any particular
speaker to stand out. On a 3-d rig there are more things to consider. For
instance, speakers on the floor will have a bass boost because of the half
space effect which might make it advisable to NOT aim the upper speakers
down so that audience members are in a part of the frequency dependent
polar diagram of the speakers where the HF is down which goes at least part
of the way to matching their sound with those on the floor. Of course, all
this should be treated with some caution and on a case-by-case basis.
