Have you got that model number right?  I still think the cheapo solution is 
the way to go .. but it would be good to know what has worked for you .. 
even if it isn't 35 yrs.  I get MS20 and loads of other stuff but not MS10 
or MS10s

And what is an Extreme 5 ?

And yes I've thought the cheap and easy to replace route is a good one.
Extreme 5 s are cheapish sound fine even have speakers. However this still
requires someone to guarantee they can replace them for a long period

It was a typo. Should have said can't. TBH I can't see how any company can
guarantee they would still be around in 5 years . In fact we can't even
