yes.

Peter Fellgett brought NRDC into the project before filing his patent as, it
being a university invention, NRDC at that time (since 1948) had first refusal
to the development and commercial exploitation thereof. It is arguable whether
he had to do this, but he did.

Thanks, Geoffrey. I wondered about that back in the early 1980s. Bit of a
shame, really, as things turned out. And who on earth chose Boots (it was
Boots, wasn’t it?) for the domestic set-up distribution, I wonder?

John

[Sursound] Is this a questionable statement?

2015-11-23 Thread John Leonard
I’ve just looked at the Wikipedia entry for Ambisonics, which contains this
statement:

"Ambisonics was developed in the UK in the 1970s under the auspices of the
British National Research Development Corporation.”

Well, I know they screwed up my little project because of their involvement,
but is this really a correct statement of fact?

Regards,

John

No, Ambisonics existed well before they came onto the scene, the word
describing the process was used on the LP released which contained an Ambisonic
recording (actually 45j) from 1974.

I don't believe the N.R.D.C was in existance then.

Peter Fellgett's patent 1,369,813 was filed in 1971 under the auspices
of the NRDC, and my understanding has always been that his subsequent
collaboration with MAG was under NRDC auspices from the start.
