I'm trying to create an 'hall' ambience in maxmsp.
depends on what you're looking for. do you want a realistic sounding
reverb or one that just sounds great?
if great sounding is more important than realism try this:
https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=185676 ("Valhalla 3D Ambisonic
Reverb")

the basic idea is to treat a b-format signal as 3 separate mid-side signals:
* convert all 3 signals to stereo
* reverberate all 3 signals with an instance of the same good stereo reverb
* convert back to 3 mid-sides
* sum the mids to w
* the sides are your x, y, z

if you want to reverberate hoa signals just use the first 4 b-format
channels.
this technique is very easy to implement in max and you can just use the
reverb whose sound you like most (there are a lot of good halls out there)

cheers,
sven.

Re: [Sursound] Anyone has competent reverberation patch used in max/msp for ambisonics?

2017-11-17 Thread Ralph Glasgal
At www.ambiophonics.org/hometheater.html

you can find a set of 24 pairs of 3D concert hall Impulse Responses that you
can use with most DAWs like max/msp or AudioMulch. They are for every 15
degrees in a circle and some are elevated. These are curtesy of Angelo
Farina and are of La Scala. I use other similar sets from Angelo of The
Sydney Opera House and St Cecilia and I call the effect The Domestic Concert
Hall. You really have to love classical music to get into this. I have 24
surround ESL panel speakers just producing hall ambience and the effect is
stupendous. The advantage of this approach is that you can process standard
CD, LP, SACD, BD, Downloads, etc media this way. But it makes sense only
for those very few into opera, oratorio, symphonies, large organs, and
similar true surround music recordings or ballet/concert videos, again, a
very small group.

This is standard convolution, nothing to do with Ambisonics although you can
add these speakers to the direct sound field produced using B format or HOA
sources. You should then use a contrived front pair to convolve the hall
IRs with.

Hope this helps,

Ralph

Dear all,

Does anyone has reverberation patch that can be used like subpatch in
max/msp? I'm trying to create an 'hall' ambience in maxmsp.

Thanks,

Yilin
