RE: [biofuel] Volkswagen TDI

2003-09-30 Thread Aaron Ellringer

I also have a 2002 Golf TDI. In the last two months I've had the car into
the dealer for warranty work (window regulators and trunk release button
poked through). It was fully covered and I've been running 100% biodiesel
since I bought the car used (10,000 miles ago).

We should be clear. Biodiesel does not void the warranty. My warranty is
still entirely valid. If something were to happen in the engine during the
warranty period, VW would have to know you were burning biodiesel and make a
case that the biodiesel was the cause of the problem. Same goes for crummy
petrodiesel.

Burn the bean!

I have an '02 Golf and I know for a fact that using biodiesel in your VW
will void the manufacturer's warranty. Check out www.tdiclub.com for more
 information.

RE: [biofuel] Volkswagen TDI

2003-09-30 Thread Aaron Ellringer

Indeed.

My point was that saying using biodiesel will void your warranty isn't
accurate or constructive.

The fact is, if you put crummy fuel in your tank and break something, that
problem isn't covered under the warranty. Whether that fuel was made
(poorly) from dinosaurs or fryer grease it doesn't matter.

So my answer to the question, will using biodiesel void my warranty:

No, it will not void your warranty.

However, if you put poorly made fuel into your vehicle, and something
happens as a result of that poor fuel, VW _may_ not cover the repairs to
that particular problem.

That's my take on the issue.

My point is that if you choose to run BD, you need to a) pick your
dealer wisely, and b) be prepared to suck it up and pay if something
 fuel related breaks.

[biofuel] cleaning out storage tank

2003-06-12 Thread Aaron Ellringer

Howdy. I have a 500 gallon mobile storage tank that was usde by a
construction firm. It looks like a giant barrel on wheels. I imagine it
needs a good cleaning. Any suggestions for how to clean this out before
filling with biodiesel?

Thanks.

[biofuel] biofuel transportation concerns

2003-01-21 Thread Aaron Ellringer

Hello all.

I am looking to transport 500 or more gallons of biodiesel at a time to
supply our biofuels co-op. We have a trailer made for the purpose of fuel
transport. Are there any legalities or practical concerns y'all might have
encountered in transporting fuels? At what volume would someone need a
special license or certifications? Hazmat placards?

We are located in Wisconsin, USA. The fuel would be coming from Minnesota.
Are there interstate commerce issues?

Thanks for sharing your experience,

Aaron in Wisconsin who mostly bikes and carpools for transportation

[biofuel] koch / flint hills soy diesel

2003-01-08 Thread Aaron Ellringer

Howdy folks. While I was cruising the TDIclub forums, I came across a
reference to

http://www.premiumdiesel.com/

which is the website of Koch refineries. They list US soy field diesel
and US soy field diesel plus and have availability maps for stations that
carry. Their product information doesn't necessarily reveal whether this
soy diesel is B1, B20, or B100, they just call it soy field diesel. My
impression is that this is just using biodiesel as a slight additive. At the
same time, I am mildly heartened that at least biofuels are breaking
through.

Does anyone out there have any experience with these folks?

[biofuel] home heating with biofuels

2002-12-05 Thread Aaron Ellringer

Hello all.

I'm trying to convince our state (Wisconsin, USA) renewable energy
contracting/research firm to pursue biofuels in residential applications.
If you orsomeone you know has used waste oil, fresh oil, and/or biodiesel to
heat a
residence(displacing fossil fuels) I would appreciate a contact. If you are
aware
of any researchprojects or demonstrations of such technologies, I would also
appreciate
your help.
In
doing this, I hope to open up our state's generous renewable energy grants
and low-interestloans to folks wishing to convert their fossil fuel oil
boilers/furnaces
to renewablesources.

Also, if you happen to live in Wisconsin, I would love to speak with you
abut thisproject and hopefully work together to let our state know there is
interest in such aprogram.

You can see Wisconsin's Focus on Energy program

Sincerely,
Aaron Ellringer
