Re: [biofuel] Ethanol Plant Polluters?
Harmon, The smell is like Milwaukee used to be during the summer, not pleasant, but not unbearable. In some areas of Wisconsin the effluent can be sprayed back on farmers fields (with a permit). On the big plants, they want the effluent to have contaminants taken out. Re: [biofuel] WVO cogneration update...help!!!!!!
Dana, Lowest price I have seen for a renewable power contract is 5.6 cents per kwh - that was for constant power, not peak shaving. If you can get 7 cents or more, you should be in good shape. Bring your process over here to Wisconsin - utilities are required to purchase a certain percentage of their power from renewables. Last summer there was a major problem because wind power does not work well over here (they are only getting 22 percent utilization). Start with Alliant Energy - they had the biggest problem. Re: [biofuel] SVO/WVO business opportunity??? Power generation
Dana, A web search will show hundreds of sites with used gensets. Concentrate on companies that can use the heat for their process (cogeneration) - it will cut costs dramatically. You could probably use some of the heat for BioD production. I don't know where you are from, but some states (Wisconsin is one) REQUIRE a certain amount of electricity be generated from renewables, thus commanding a higher price. Another fuel to be considered is ethanol. I can't understand why ethanol plants do not do this themselves. [biofuel] Waste Veggie Oil Disposal Problem
Great article in yesterday's Wall Street Journal about waste veggie oil. Price is so low, companies are dumping it down sewers. Cost to remove / clean sewers is enormous. My dream is to make ethanol and put it into E85 engines, classify the power as 85% renewable and sell it for 6 to 7 cents. I'd make a killing. Re: [biofuel] Farming question
True. The state of Wisconsin sets aside 640,000 acres (across the US the number is VERY large) at about $55 per acre (paid by the federal government). The feds pay $35,000,000 to not grow crops in this that can be used for ethanol production then subsidizes the production! Currently, we "import" about 50,000,000 gallons from other states. Currently, fed subsidy is about 5.4 cents per gallon, the state adds 20 cents and if you get a piece of the new fed subsidy, add another 40 cents. Go figure.
