Try methyl hydrate (methanol), and caustic soda or lye instead of sodium hydroxide. methanol can be got in the uk for about 30p/L in 200L drums from any chemical supplier, and in bulk loads for only 10p/L. methanol can damage the zinc coating on the inside of fuel pumps . Also interesting results on use of ethanol blended with SVO. hi I,ve made a few small batches using the 2 stage process but have had some problems. Every time at the acid stage it doesn't seporate, instead I allways end up with a thick mass. can anyone advise to what I'm doing wrong?
