[Biofuel] Jetta TDI

2006-06-13 Thread Ken Riznyk
I was just browsing through the VW website. They now
have a brief blurb on Biodiesel and say that using B5
will not void their warranty. About two years ago I
remember a discussion on VW and at that time they did
not approve of the use of biodiesel. Here's a change
in the right direction.

Ken

Rock on! '02 Golf TDI

1. Get a 5-speed (The auto gets poor mileage and is sluggish)
2. Put B100 in the tank
3. Get Upsoluted (see tdiclub.com)
4. Hang on!

Hi,

MY old car is dying a slow painful death and I was thinking about
getting the Jetta TDI. Does anyone have any experience with putting
biodiesel in Jetta's ?? All ideas welcomed!

Thanks

Slater

Put it in and go. If it's new-ish it'll be biodiesel-proof, probably
all Jetta TDIs are. The issue is whether there are rubber parts and
seals in the fuel system, but this mainly applies to older vehicles,
virtually all European cars have been biodiesel-proof since the early
90s. If it's new VW will cavill over the warranty, which they say
covers only canola-based biodiesel (rapeseed), not soy-based. Canola
does have better lubricity than soy and is a better oil, but any
biodiesel has more than adequate lubricity. This probably reflects
the difference betwen the EU standards, favouring rapeseed biodiesel,
and the US standards, favouring soy biodiesel. You won't have any
trouble though, as long as it's well-made biodiesel, so it's up to
you whether you tell them or not.

Best

Keith

Hi, Slater -

Go to http://www.tdiclub.com/

This is a VERY ACTIVE website for TDI owners.
They have a number of Forums (Click on Forum on the top of the page).
Then click on VW TDI Discussion Areas
Then click on Fuels Lubricants

You'll find LOTS of stuff there about running biodiesel in a TDI engine.
There are quite a few people doing it -- it's tried and proven. You can
get answers to your questions there -- people on this forum are
pretty enthusiastic about sharing their experience.

Hope this helps -
Cheers -
RJLaue

Keith,

Thanks for the reply, what percentage of bio-diesel to regular diesel do you
run, I have heard only 10-20%. What is the real number ?

Thanks

Slater
