Re: [Biofuel] pv biz
Hi all, I made errors in my hasty earlier mail.Kindly accept my apologies. For 100w pv supply, 1h run supplies 0.1kwh energy.1day supplies 1kwh assuming 10h sunlight in tropics.1month supplies 30kwh. A 120kwh/m moderate user needs 4 modules costing usd 960. At usd 0.08 per kwh for grid electrical cost or usd 9.6 per month payback of cost is 100 months which is life of pv.We need pv modules at less than half the current cost. --- On Wed, 3/10/10, Manick Harris [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: From: Manick Harris [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [Biofuel] pv biz To: sustainablelorgbiofuel@sustainablelists.org Date: Wednesday, March 10, 2010, 12:14 PM Hi everybody, I think current pv is still feasible. A 100w panel costs usd240 here in Malaysia.Grid power costs usd0.08 per kwh.At 100kwh usage per month it would take 30m to get cost of panel back. At charging rate of 100*3600*10h/d*30d/m=108Mw or more than 10 times monthly usage rate. If price could reduced further a lot of people might become interested, including me,provided excess can be put back into grid. For what it is worth water electrolysis under pressure to convert enthalpy of H,O products into electric power for moving water in a channel like river. Then put paddle boats into it and you get very cheap transport power without petrol,or even alcohol. I think like islander since I am islander living in Penang island. Alas I am limited to thinking only. Re: [Biofuel] pv biz
100 months better not be the life of the PV. That's less than 10 years. I have several that are approching 25 years and are still working fine. Re: [Biofuel] pv biz
i don't know the particulars of the power industry in the u.k. (such as whether the 'traditional' generators are subsidized), but while monbiot makes some valid points his conclusion seems flawed. it's less a question of whether to suasidize or not to subsidize, than one of how to structure the subsidy. also, until the externalized costs of fossil fuel- and extraction-based power generation are plugged into the equation, you can't fairly assess how much to subsidize alternative energy. ___ Biofuel mailing list Biofuel@sustainablelists.org http://sustainablelists.org/mailman/listinfo/sustainablelorgbiofuel Biofuel at Journey to Forever: http://journeytoforever.org/biofuel.html Search the combined Biofuel and Biofuels-biz list archives (70,000 messages): http://www.mail-archive.com/biofuel@sustainablelists.org/
