Re: [sword-devel] ISV Bible

2022-08-17 Thread Fr Cyrille
Ok thank you for all this information. For now I will work on the isv
2.1 (the epub). I already convert it to html). Someone knows about the
copyright status? In the conf I read that Crosswire received the
permission to use it.

The ISV foundation was made up of:

I did not know about William Welty or the ISV until I randomly heard
about it from a youtube video back in 2016:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scYlscgRvnk where he briefly described
his work on the ISV. It seemed interesting and I wanted a hard copy of
the ISV and would check the website (isv.org) a few times per year as
it always stated a hard copy would be available "next year". Then I
noticed a /downloads url was open to the public on isv.org
(https://web.archive.org/web/20190414120747/https://www.isv.org/downloads/)
This is where the files I posted came from. I had it on my personal
todo list to email the ISV foundation and see if they needed any
volunteer help with anything, but before I ever got around to that,
the website went offline. I could not find any email addresses for
William Welty other than ones that ended in "isv.org". From there I
found a few public emails from the original translators and emailed
them about the project's status, but the answers I got were mostly of
the "I don't know" category.

I downloaded quite a bit of data from isv.org right before it went
offline. My plan was to update the sword version as well but I never
could get in contact with the authors. Now most of the authors have
passed away in the last two years so not sure of the project status. It
is probably not in the right format and would probably need to be parsed
and extracted but this is what I have: https://tinyurl.com/3hnjzfpn

Hi Cyrille,

Have you tried the Wayback Machine for snapshots of isv.org before the

Yes. It's always my first shoot for an old module.

btw. The ISV is also online at BibleHub though probably not without
licensing restrictions.

cf. Bible Gateway has safeguards against bulk capture of data.

Aside: The CrossWire ISV module is NT only.

NB. Sword utility mod2osis is not lossless. It’s preferable to use
mod2imp to export the module content.

Yes, I was thinking about mod2imp sorry! I have a scritp to convert the
imp to usfm files.
But now the text from Michael, it's really better. We'll have all the
bible soon.
