I don't have a xubuntu 14.04 right now to reproduce. When I test this
on my 16.04 alpha system I see that clicking on the scrollbar moves
you to the point that was clicked to.

Is the scrollbar behavior in synaptic different than the behavior of
other gtk apps (like e.g. gedit if you open a huge text file)? I don't
think we do anything special with the scrollbars, i.e. we use what the
gtk toolkit provides us.

What version of synaptic and what distro and what version of the
distro do you use? I tink I have not seen that on debian and ubuntu
yet. Any special settings that I should know about when trying to
reproduce? Setting the TERM from inside synaptic for the build-in vte
terminal is simpke. But I would like to understand the issue a bit
better first.

 Hello!

I have translated Synsptic for PCLinuxOS 2007 some years ago. Every time
Synaptic's newer version was published, my translation was replaced with
an older version of translation, which contains a lot of mistakes and
 very very unusual translation strings.

As Ubuntu uses this same old, really not adequate translation, I
contributed my translation to Ubuntu as well. At the moment my
 translation is added to
 http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-langpack/ppa/ubuntu jauntry main

According to my experience I'm afraid that at the next upgrade the
translation will be replaced with the old one in Ubuntu as well. That's
why I would like to join directly to Synaptic-devel translators.

Thanks for putting it into launchpad. If you mail me (or the list) the
translation directly then I will merge it into the official synaptic
bzr tree and it will be part of all upcomming releases (for both
ubuntu and debian and any other distros that use it).

Thanks for your idea.

This can already be done with the File/Save markings feature. You select your
changes, save them and load them later again when you are online. Not as
convenient as a seperate button.

If you think that is good enough, I'll close this report.

Btw, Michael, you are an Ubuntu developer, so I guess you might know
where I can found a pot file for Ubuntu update notifier and update
manager? I browsed through Rosetta from top to bottom, but couldn't find
 it. :)

You can get update-notifier here:
svn co https://oops.kerneljanitors.org/repos/upgrade-notifier/

and update-manager here (require bzr, available on both ubuntu and
debian unstable):
bzr get http://people.ubuntu.com/~mvo/bzr/update-manager--mvo/

In rosetta here:

 I opened synaptic, right-clicked on a program. The context-menu
popped up, but right after that the dialog stating that my files
were too old. The result: a non-responding gnome. I had to
ctrl-alt-f1 and login, kill to get Gnome responding again. Could be
a gtk bug or of the window Manager, but I experienced it only with
Synaptic. I'm running Ubuntu Hoary. I didn't subscribe to the list,
 btw.

I tried to reproduce the problem here without success. It looks like a
race condition to me. Is your system fast or slow? Are you able to
reproduce it all the time or does it only happens sometimes? What do I
need to do to reproduce?

Thanks,

Have you build synaptic with support for the vte terminal? It needs
the configure switch --with-vte. It should default to vte then.

(If not, you may try try -o Synaptic::UseTerminal=true).
