It's ideal for nominating airstrip or airfield though. Cheers Ross ___ Tagging mailing list Tagging@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/tagging

It's my understanding that international status is not necessarily a measure of a major airport; it simply means it's equipped to handle international flights, but it may have one puddle jumper a day. It's probably a decent approximation if we can't find anything better though. ___ Tagging mailing list Tagging@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/tagging

I would become an issue for anyone looking up the information and seeing I can land there and do customs/immigration/etc when they really can not. Re: [Tagging] Why addr:state rather than is_in:state? (response to 2010-12-26 05:29:46)
Totally agree. More over, every time you use the symbol : in your tag, you mean that the subtag is telling something more specific about the maintag thats in front of it. This methode should be introduced more widely all over OSM to avoid annoying new and unnesseccerry tags or values. (response to 2010-12-26 05:29:46) (from ceyockey) I am of the opinion that addr:state should only be used in the context of an address, not as a standalone synonym for is_in:state, meaning that I support the use of is_in:state for routes. Maybe the ICAO or IATA or individual countries' aviation authority have defined categories for these things but I doubt people know them, and any attempt to tag consistently would surely prove futile. I would suggest, instead, listing facilities and services available, much like we tag gas/petrol/fuel stations, e.g. fuels, repair, oxygen, customs/immigration, etc. This is the approach used in the US FAA's Airport Facilities Directory (which could be a decent source of import data if someone would like to work on it). -- Alan Mintz alan_mintz+...@earthlink.net ___ Tagging mailing list Tagging@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/tagging
