[Tagging] Pls explain?

Any ideas?

And, slightly more seriously, man_made=MDF - what's that about?

Not a clue. But the XAPI's up at the moment, so you can ask the mappers
concerned.

MDF is medium-density fibreboard, so maybe they're tagging what the
object is made of rather than what the object is?

The River Soar near Zouch, Leicestershire (UK) has a set of emergency
mooring dolphins for use in times of flood. Makes me laugh every time I
boat past there.

cheers

[Tagging] Barriers near roads

2011-02-11 Thread y...@o2.pl
Hi, I want to ask about two types of barrier:

1. noise barrier
(http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ekran-Akustyczny.jpg) - kind
of wall near road, mostly motorway/trunk, sometimes transparent

2. crash barrier
(http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:CrashBarrier.jpg) - low
barrier from metal or concrete, you can jump over it

IMO 1. should be sth like: barrier=wall + wall=noise_barrier. I don't
know how to tag second one. Any suggestions?

Cheers,
Paweł

Even if it is a single-user created and used key - at least it has a
Wiki page which could be found via search MDF, unfortunately not
translated yet.

I do not know if it is used outside Germany in OSM - I did not look up.
It is used for Main Distribution Frame (for DSL - Digital Subscriber
Line).

Sven Geggus imported a list published by the german Telekom.
Well, ok, the value is not a really wise choice with an ambiguous
abbreviation ...

yes, I agree, at least for the barrier=wall part. wall=noise_barrier
could maybe also be a different tag (something to group all kind of
noise reduction facilities).

2) I used to map as barrier=guard_rail

I think a guard rail is one specific type of crash barrier.
barrier=crash might be better.

Ah, I didn't search directly, I was using taginfo.
