Thanks everybody for confirming what I thought & offering a possible
alternative - I'll pass that on to the mapper concerned.

Just to clarify though?

If things are tagged as "Proposed", they will then disappear off the map
completely, or will still be visible "greyed out" or something?

Thanks

Graeme

[Tagging] Weighbridges for containers

2018-05-16 Thread Stefano
Hello,
since two years an IMO regulation requires the weighing of full shipping
containers and this caused the increase of weighing stations, often grouped
together in the same facility.
I wanted to map some of them and opted for using the existing tag amenity =
weighbridge[0] but on an area instead of the highway.
I created also the tag ( weighbridge:solas = yes ) to tell apart the
classic weighbridges (i.e. for tractors) from the ones used for container
trucks

Example: https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/505500747

What do you think?
Should I describe the use case on the wiki page?

Thanks,
Stefano

somehow official plans always change something, because people react
accordingly, but it doesn’t mean that something will be built or that it is
easy to detect the influence of a proposal.

No. And it is unlikely to happen. Closest thing to final decision is wide usage
of tag
by mappers and data consumers, that is why popular tags like
highway=motorway or lane=* tag are unlikely to change its meaning.
Recent major decision
washttps://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=Proposed_features/Aviation_Obstacle_Light=1597093=1596913

by
 proposer.
At this point one may either put new version to vote or just use this tag (or
both).

I agree with that policy, but some people really like to map proposed features.

In that case please use proposed prefix and add source for claim that it is
proposed.

Source is necessary as some people like adding their personal project or ideas
and even

many official plans never result in anything changing on the ground.
