Re: [Tails-dev] error connecting issues
Hi, I'm forwarding this to our Help Desk and adding some questions inline below: sade via Tails-dev (2021-07-14): > Having issues connecting to tor network > > first time connecting since new update I understand you've updated to Tails 4.20. > have persistent storage enabled > > Tried connecting through automatically generated bridges but would not connect With "automatically generated bridges", do you mean the default bridges proposed by Tails, or anything else? > Then tried connecting using custom tor bridges from email @ torproject typed > them exactly how received still failing to connect > recheck everything several times over still having issues I think we'll need a WhisperBack report to debug this: https://tails.boum.org/doc/first_steps/bug_reporting/#no_internet_access ___ Tails-dev mailing list Tails-dev@boum.org https://www.autistici.org/mailman/listinfo/tails-dev To unsubscribe from this list, send an empty email to tails-dev-unsubscr...@boum.org.

Re: [Tails-dev] error 7424

OK, that's the other bug that I've not come around to work on yet (the fact that I can't reproduce it does not help). In the end, this was caused by a lack of space on the Tails partition. The update process takes a lot of space on the partition while decompressing everything several times. It ends up using around 3 times the size of the IUK itself. So having another file of 80M on the partition was enough to make it crash at some random point. It was a bit silly from me to have this random file laying around, but I'm glad we spotted a bug that would have shown up anyway (legitimately or not) at some point. 3. Another thing that bothers me is that I cannot find the place where the tmp file is being downloaded. For example, if I try to `ls` the file that is reported as the output file of tails-iuk-get-target-file I get a No such file or directory. intrigeri told me there were many layers of abstraction, and in the end I could find the file with another name. At the end of the process it's renamed as expected. signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature ___ tails-dev mailing list tails-dev@boum.org https://mailman.boum.org/listinfo/tails-dev

I reinstalled Tails 0.15 twice. The USB drive used to be a Tails 0.16 and I used Upgrade from ISO with Tails Installer from a Tails 0.16 to install Tails 0.15 on it. I tried again the upgrade process and I wasn't more successful than the first time. I'm bringing more info in play... I tried with another USB drive, which I cloned directly from a Tails 0.15 using the installer. 1. Very often (always?) before getting the 7424 I get the error code 65280: « Could not download 'http://dl.amnesia.boum.org/tails/stable/iuk/Tails_i386_0.15_to_0.16.iuk' to '/tmp/OzB1PKCOc1', callback died: read timeout at /usr/share/perl5/LWP/Protocol/http.pm line 426. at /usr/share/perl5/Tails/IUK/TargetFile/Download.pm line 66 » See the terminal output on the same pad. 2. That happens simultaneously with the network being disconnected. I could blame the Wi-Fi connection for that but that's not happening usually but that happened at least 10 times or more while trying to do the upgrade. Then restarting the upgrade leads to error 7424. 3. Another thing that bothers me is that I cannot find the place where the tmp file is being downloaded. For example, if I try to `ls` the file that is reported as the output file of tails-iuk-get-target-file I get a No such file or directory. See the pad for that as well. That's blocking me from writing the doc :( What else shall I try? Another laptop? A wired network? signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature ___ tails-dev mailing list tails-dev@boum.org https://mailman.boum.org/listinfo/tails-dev
