RE: introducing AT prime software with window eyes

2015-03-19 Thread Rick Thomas via Talk
Hi Guys: It is an interesting app.
I am looking forward to later this year to see how Paul fleshes out the
project.
My only thought is that if he can do this stuff, likely using UIA, why cant
the screen reader companies do it?
And, in fact, once he has a product on the market they will likely setup
similar features.
In any case it is a nice project and he has evidently put some time into it.
Showing up at Csun or whatever with a demo and creating a audio video is
another nice touch showing he is serious about putting something out.
But lets wait to see how he sets the project up for production.
Right now he is talking online, likely easier to manage and control any
pricing he might, or not, require but as some have noted it would be a good
app as a stand-alone download as well.
He has put himself out there in the public eye so lets see how well he
builds his product and his company.
Good luck to all who develop for others!

It's a helper application that allows people to have access to controls
that wouldn't otherwise be accessible. Even if it's a non-standard
control, if there's any help text or a tooltip, AT prime can grab it and
make the control more meaningful to the user. Also, if the help text
isn't something meaningful, it's possible to create text labels for
controls so that they're more meaningful for folks. It's cloud-based,
so even if you're on a computer that isn't yours, you can still have
access to all your settings and everything, no matter where you are in
the world. I'm still not sure how it handles web pages, such as
non-standard flash controls and other things like that, but I'm certain
that we'll know more soon. I'm going to reserve judging it until i've
actually had a play with it, to see what it can do. from the demo I
heard though, it's pretty darn impressive.

OK, just gave that podcast a listen. Sure sounds interesting.

Yet, I strongly disagree in a solution that requires you to be online,
even if it is only for launching it. This kind of solution, is so deeply
digging into the way people will get access to their screen, that they
will become more or less completely depending on it. And then, what do
you do the day when your internet connection is down? You cannot even
launch the whole product, meaning that you now have to rely on the
built-in functionality of your screen reader. Since you have come to
depend on the info and operation of the AT Prime, you may have forgotten
 - or even worse, never really learned - the way to operate the screen
reader itself. And, you may have learned to base your computer activity
on a software that the screen reader does not necessarily cooperate well
with. Now that your internet is down, you don't get a chance to launch
 this extra piece of software, and are left out in the cold, dark blue;
 with nowhere to go.

You know, it all reminds me of what recently has taken place on the
Android platform. First we saw the Eloquence voices hit the Android
market, and lately I think it was Ivona. In both cases, the
manufacturers decided to go for an online-based solution. Seems they
figured we live in a time and world, where internet is something
everybody are born with - a kind of an extension to our very body.
Sorry, but that is not the everyday of many users. The guy behind the AT
Prime, even is talking about developing countries who cannot afford. And
then, he forces them to pay expensive, unreliable internet connections,
for every time the product is going to be launched on your system.
Imagine, in those countries with an unstabil power supply. The computer
goes down ten times a day, due to power failure. And every time, you as
a blind user have to hope for your internet connection to be up running,
put aside a whole budget for online time, simply just to launch your
extra piece of screen reading technology.

Even in super-modern countries, like the North-Americas and Europe, we
know what a connection failure causes for trouble. Do I have to remind
people of the many complains GW received every time GWConnect did not
work? Why was that? Wasn't it namely due to the lack of connection for
an online service that people had come to rely on? And that was for a
chatting program, something people could do without. I doubt your
employer will accept you telling him, that you cannot read the screen,
just because there is some sort of

Office 2013 Problems

2015-03-19 Thread Dan Rathburn via Talk

Hello,

I took the plunge and bought Office 2013 through Amazon. I created a

start any of the components of Office, I get the error message that it has

Re: should I remove it

2015-03-19 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland via Talk

Neville,

I'd be very very careful with this type utility. What if you had a false
positive. Meaning in other words, what if it told you that something wasn't
needed, so, you remove it only then to find that it causes other things to
start playing disaster.

I'm sure you know this already, but all that I am basically saying is,
programs like this can be great, but just be sure to backup, and to first do
your humon research as well. I'd not soly rely on an application to tell me
what it thinks is good vs. bad. Sorry. I know this doesn't really answer
the question, but it's just my two cents worth. Take it or leave it.

I find that Window eyes 8.4 works better with one particular site I visit
regularly. I am wondering if there is a way I can have 8.4 on my computer
specifically for use with that site while keeping 9.1 for everything else?
Perhaps a mobile version of 8.4 would work for this?

Thanks,

Hi,

Has anyone tried the free programme, Should I remove it with WE 9.1?

It seems the utility informs the user the purpose of a programme on
the system and whether it can be safely removed. It also makes the
task of removal very easy.

Apparently there has been a lot of users like Kim Commando singing
its praises but wondering if it is speech friendly.

A tip for Thunderbird users

2015-03-19 Thread Donald L. Roberts via Talk
After upgrading to Window-eyes 9, I have been less than enthusiastic
about Thunderbird's performance with frequent lock ups and crashes.
Recently I decided to experiment a bit and extended the cursor delay to
25 and of course changed the global setting to program. It may be a bit
premature, but the T Bird has been functioning nicely, and the message
headers have been reading much more accurately for me.

Hi, Tom, David.

A thought. Maybe you could create a set file specific to the active directory
plug-in, then redefine the up and down arrow keys to execute hot key instead of
speak line, then for the first action info, choose the speak summary hot key,
number 47 in the list. The cursoring key trigger delay might be more effective
with the speak summary hot key.

Of course, you'll need to set the cursoring keys to program instead of global
or else you'll mess up all your other set file cursoring keys.

I can't try it out myself, as I don't have Win 7 professional.

Cursor delay does not do much to me, sometimes it just got worst, so I prefer

it can't be the network being slow as I RDP into them to manage them directly.
It started since 7.5 I think or so.
If you look at the group policy editor in all those new server, it have delay

Hello,

I am using Windows 7 and WE 9.1 with a set file renamed from default.set.

In Active Directory, the cursoring up or down reads the previous container when
in the first 3 branches. This also happens when navigating by typing the first
letter of the container. The settings for the up and down arrows are set to
read line. I have tried to change to read something else, but that doesn't
help. An example would be: we have departments like Public Health and Public
Works. If I am on Public Health and press the down arrow to Public Works, WE
says Public Health when it should say Public Works.
Likewise, when I arrow back up to Public Health, WE says Public Works. The
Windows Explorer or any other tree views do not behave like this.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get these arrow keys or typing by
first letter to read correctly?

Thanks,

David Ayers

You are correct, you can't have two video drivers for two different
versions of Window-eyes installed on the same computer.

But it probably won't work because of the WEVideo driver incompatibility.
Admittedly, I've never tried, but I'm pretty sure you cannot install two
different WEVideo drivers at the same time.

The only way you can do this is to rename your 8.4 folder to something
else;

then you can a fresh install of Windows9xx.

Re: Can one have both Window-eyes 9.1 and 8.4 available on the same computer?

2015-03-19 Thread Chris Skarstad via Talk

I've cleaned up the subject line a bit.

The short answer is basicly, no, not that I've ever heard of. I know
that other AT products allow for this by installing the screenreader
into different folders, but i've never heard of anyone doing it with
Window-eyes.

Re: chicken nuggett and window-eyes

2015-03-19 Thread Chris Skarstad via Talk
My best advice is if you haven't already done so, download and install
the latest version of CN. Twitter made a few changes in their
authorization structure for third party apps like Chicken Nugget, so if
you have an older version, uninstall that one first, making sure you
delete absolutely everything, and then install the latest one and you
*should* be able to log in. If you're still having trouble, i'd suggest
contacting accessible apps support, as they'd be able to help you much
more with this one. Hope that helps!

On 3/19/2015 12:03 PM, Jed Barton via Talk wrote:

Hey guys,

Anyone on here use the twitter app chicked nugges with window-eyes?
I'm having a problem with it.
here's what's going on.
It's saying please log in to twitter using thw browser window that was
jsut opened.
So i type in the user name and password, then it says authorize app
button. so i press enter on that.

It then says redirecting you to the application, this may take a few
minutes, if your browser doesn't redirect you, please click here.
The word click here is a link, so i press enter on that, and we've
made no progress, it's still sitting there on that screen after
hitting enter 4 times.

Any ideas?
