Hello Everyone: Last week Friday, I decided to install Window-Eyes9 on a Windows8.1 laptop that's been sitting around in my office for a while.
First, it took forever for the CD to come up talking; when it did and I selected "Install Window-Eyes With Speech", nothing loaded for nearly five minutes or longer. When the installation process finally got underway, I was unable to SILENCE the speech so as to enable me choose what I want to install--say for example, choosing a notetaker to install. When I pressed a letter to cycle through the list of Braille notetakers I could install, the chatter DID NOT stop. I had to <tab> and <shift-tab> back and forth to be able to read anything. Frustrated, I had to BORROW A PAIR OF EYES to help me with an installation process that I ordinarily did ON MY OWN on every other computer I have here. So, why is installation of Window-Eyes9 more tedious on a Windows8.1 Professional machine and it was smooth sailing on both XP and Windows7 Professional? When I completed the installation and rebooted the machine, the StartUp Sound, like it was in XP, was there; when I unloaded Window-Eyes, the Close Sound was there as well. Not so however in Windows7. So, what changed and why? Apologies for a rather long post; but gracious thanks for any answers I can get based on what I've described herein.
