I'm not Brian. But, the answer to your question regarding Windows Defender is yes, it works well with Window-eyes. Windows Defender took the place of Microsoft Security Essentials beginning with the release of Windows 8. I am now using it with Windows 10. Just because a computer comes with a specific antivirus software, you don't have to use it. Windows Defender is free, runs in the background, and is unobtrusive.
