Re: [Talk-transit] Should I split roads to create bus routes?
In order to create a bus route relation, I would have to split roads into many small segments with identical tags. This causes Andy Allan's transport render to repeat route labels more than necessary as a side effect. Should I split the road segments or use some other method for creating bus route relations? Don't map for renderer, map reality. You should split the road into segments if your route require that split. Good renderer can combine segments with same information before rendering. ___ Talk-transit mailing list Talk-transit@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-transit
Re: [OSM-talk] querying the postgis db
hi, I know that this sounds a bit of a dumb question: I have installed osm data in a postgis db, and would like to get a list of all localities within a particular city - can anyone give a hint on the sql required for this? Something like: SELECT a.osm_id,a.name,ST_X(a.way),ST_Y(a.way) FROM planet_osm_point a,planet_osm_polygon b WHERE a.place='locality' AND b.osm_id='id of boundary of particular city' AND a.way b.way ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk
Re: [Talk-transit] generate a public transport map for a city
Hi, Thanks for the wiki. If i import another batch of osm file in the existing sql, is problematic? or the script will clear on his own? You may import another OSM file with different prefix (osm2pgsql -p newprefix) and leave existing data untouched. ___ Talk-transit mailing list Talk-transit@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-transit

Re: [OSM-talk] stat pr0n
Hi all, I was thinking it would be nice to have a OSM user stat pr0n page / web app. Enter your (or any) OSM user name, and the web site will pull recent change sets and generate nice charts like: ... Or do we have something like that already? The only thing I look at is the changesets page and that's informative but kind of boring. Everyone can setup planet mirror and calculate any satistics. Just for example: http://hdyc.neis-one.org/?xybot No need to overload main OSM servers with extra statitic calculation. ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk

Is there a way to see all features at lesser zoom. The idea is to print out a jpg map from OSM which has everything written. regards Tanveer You may use Kosmos or any other OSM renderer with you own rules for this. Re: [OSM-talk] Licence of Soviet military topographic maps
But you should know that there are some copyright international agreements between many countries. Russian laws can't be used in England, and russian military secrets can't be protected by English laws. But it doesn't concern with copyright laws. Roscartographia is a copyright holder for soviet topo maps, so its rights may be protected by English laws. I think you should take this to the legal list. As far as I know, the copyright laws of england count for osm, not those of russia. mike 2010/6/24 Alexandr Zeinalov shu...@sbin.ru We purchased them from this site : http://mapstor.com/ AFAIK this is not legal seller of maps, and poehali.org too. [OSM-talk] Military objects in RU: warning about status of voting
Good day. You should know about flame war about military objects and government secrets in Russian OSM community. And you should know that any voting results may be considered as and only as recommendation, but not as invariable law. At 2010-04-13 user Zkir http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/User:Zkir added voting results followed with warning about formal status of this voting to avoid misunderstanding: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=RU:%D0%92%D0%B8%D0%BA%D0%B8%D0%9F%D1%80%D0%BE%D0%B5%D0%BA%D1%82_%D0%A0%D0%BE%D1%81%D1%81%D0%B8%D1%8F/%D0%93%D0%BE%D0%BB%D0%BE%D1%81%D0%BE%D0%B2%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%B8%D1%8F/%D0%9E%D0%B1%D0%BE%D0%B7%D0%BD%D0%B0%D1%87%D0%B5%D0%BD%D0%B8%D1%8F_%D0%B2%D0%BE%D0%B5%D0%BD%D0%BD%D1%8B%D1%85_%D0%BE%D0%B1%D1%8A%D0%B5%D0%BA%D1%82%D0%BE%D0%B2diff=457650oldid=457393 (translation) This voting is only recommandation, it cannot give someone any rights to delete something. Deleteting of information that compatible with CC-BY-SA, verifiable and/or correspond to the facts is vandalism. E.g. http://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/talk/2010-April/049600.html; Since that user Vctos http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/User:Vctos removed this warning 3 times with comment: I deleted text about applicability of voting results that added after RFC (translation). But there was 5 different questions and really 5 different votings. PS: Lots of them (who voted for untruth mapping for military) have real contribution to OSM.
