[OSM-talk] Recommendations for a new GPS Device?
I've been using my old N95 for a while now to get my GPS traces, but unfortunatly it's decided to finally give up. So, i'm in the market for a new GPS device. I'd preferebly like a standalone device but i'm not shunning away from any bluetooth devices, as lugging around a EeePC in a backpack is quite easy. Any recommendations? I've had a look over the reviews wiki page but i'd like some feedback from the OSM public :) -- Andrew Williams / Nik_Doof w: http://tensixtyone.com/ e: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk
Re: [OSM-talk] (Proposed UK) National Cycle Map standard
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 2008/8/5 Stephen Gower : I'm not quite sure who is considering this, but http://www.cyclecheltenham.org.uk/map_standard.html claims to be being considered as the basis for a national standard. Good to see this getting some traction, Warrington have made a similar style map available[1] which has been really useful to cyclists. The actual map looks pretty good for an end-user and exactly the sort of thing I want to see. However, I can see that trying to incorporate the data into the OSM model will be scuppered by people saying it involves too may subjective decisions. Anyone got any suggestions for a tagging scheme that would allow us to use OSM data to produce maps to this Cheltenham Standard? If you look at it objectively, then the only new tags you would need is a traffic level tag, which would be also useful for routing use in the future. I think the rest are covered by existing tags, right? Re: [Talk-GB] Phone recommendation
2008/7/29 Kyle Gordon [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Inbuilt GPS, with reasonable openness that allows $random_mapping_app Accelerometers... just because :-) Sync capabilities with Linux Touch screen 3G, Bluetooth Wireless A decent developer community (no doubt spurred on by being a decent development environment) A camera would be nice, but it's not a big requirement. As strange as it might sound, a Windows Mobile based phone might be good for you, especially the range from HTC. The TyTN II seems to have all the features you want[1], bar the accelerometers. The GPS exports as a simple COM port so works with alot of software. Syncing is a little touchy due to WM6, but can work with multisync/synce[2]. Either that or you can battle with Series60 on Nokia handsets, like the N95 (which I own at the moment). Re: [Talk-GB] 2nd Leeds Mapping Party
2008/7/23 Tim Waters (chippy) [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Hi folks, OK, we've had a few micro mapping parties, and mapping pub crawls since the 1st Party, but this one should be a big 'un. It's part of the 2 day BarCamp Leeds, and should see sizeable parts of the city being filled in. Booked myself +1, should be good! -- Andrew Williams / Nik_Doof w: http://tensixtyone.com/ e: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ___ Talk-GB mailing list Talk-GB@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/talk-gb
