Is an svg file not graphics until it gets rendered? Rendered != rasterised. The vector data has no natural visual form. Combined with some instructions and styling (i.e. draw a 3 pixel line along these vectors in red with rounded caps), it can be rendered into a visual form. Like an SVG file. ___ legal-talk mailing list legal-talk@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/legal-talk

On 05/08/10 14:50, Anthony chuntered on: Still waiting for that definition of geodata. It's a contraction of geographical data. I didn't ask for an expanded form, I asked for a definition. You are aware that there are aspects to life that aren't connected to copyright? Like the definition of geodata. Just because the map is in digitized vector format doesn't mean it's not a digital version of a visual work of cartography. Consider a written musical score and a recording of a performance of that score. The score is not the performance, and there are different laws and aspects of the law covering the two fixed forms. And both are subject to copyright law. Good analogy. Again, not connected to copyright. This is a very good analogy of your point about digital versions. The copyright status of the items has absolutely nothing to do with the validity of the analogy or the facts behind it. ___ legal-talk mailing list legal-t...@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/legal-talk
