I think the symbol is fine, but there seems to be a line of white pixels on the right hand edge, which looks like it might be a rendering error. I'm not sure that pubs are more important than many other features of the map that are not shown - for example shops. If it were my map, I would remove pubs and put them in some sort of clickable overlay.
