Re: [Diversity-talk] Etiquette Guidelines bad | Re: Code of conduct

2020-12-13 Diskussionsfäden arnalie faye vicario
The current Etiquette Guidelines is not enough. By the title, it is just a
"guideline" - a suggestion or a piece of advice.

We really need a *CODE* of Conduct that is enforceable with a committed
moderator or working group.

As a non-native English speaker, I have to look up the definitions in the
dictionary to confirm.

Hello/kumusta,

What an overwhelming response!

This is my first time to email thru the global osm talk; it really takes true
grit to join the conversations, huge thanks to the people who inspired me and
sparked the flame.

I will keep it short and redirect you to a (short) OSM Diary I wrote on Why
WOMEN are pushing for a safe and inclusive space in OSM:
https://www.openstreetmap.org/user/arnalielsewhere/diary/395064

A slide from @mapmakerdavid states "it takes good relationships to navigate an
ocean.”

Forwarded from osmf-talk mailing:

Hello everybody
I hope you are all well

We, several groups, chapters, organizations and individuals, have reacted
to the conversation in the osm-talk-list (
https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/talk/2020-December/085692.html)
considering that it is an incident symptomatic of the problem we have faced
for many years in the community, which is one of the greatest obstacles to
diversity at all levels of OSM. Time to make a real change.
That is why we have developed a beginning of statement on the desirable
mechanisms to work solidly on the rules of coexistence and improve
diversity.

We bring it to your attention and invite anyone who feels represented to
sign it. Translations are in preparation (any help is welcome):

[talk-ph] Update/Write-up: Co-Creating a Code of Conduct for OpenStreetMap Philippines (Part 1/n)

2020-12-09 Diskussionsfäden arnalie faye vicario
Hi everyone,

Apologies for the late update/write up, I didn't have a laptop for weeks
but thankfully, I have now.

I wrote an OSM diary for the summary, what happened during the Pista ng
Mapa session and proposed next steps:
https://www.openstreetmap.org/user/arnalielsewhere/diary/395052

Thanks to everyone who participated! Draft CoC on the way!

Hopefully before the year ends; if not, then early apologies.

Thanks and happy holidays in advance!

Hello/*Kumusta*,

*Salamat*/Thanks everyone for continuing the conversations and taking this
seriously.

It is good to speak up and comment about it in our individual capacities,
but a collective can build a fire  (charcoal comparison).

This is what we did in OSM PH's Call to Correct Narratives About Geospatial
Work in the Philippines (re: Amazon-HOT video).

Also, I would like to quote and highlight what David Garcia
(@mapmakerdavid) has shared in Twitter:

Thank you Geochicas, Celine @mapeadora, Heather, Rebecca, Miriam
@mapanauta, Nelson Minar, LCCWG Group, OSMF past/present Board members
(Kate, Rory and Mikel), HOT Community WG and everyone who expressed support
and has spoken up (apologies if I missed your name). It is really

In case you missed it (like me), here is what Celine sent in the OSM talk

[Diversity-talk] A Call to Correct Narratives about Geospatial Work

2020-09-05 Diskussionsfäden arnalie faye vicario
Hello all,

Last September 1, Amazon Web Services (AWS) released an episode of their
documentary series *Now Go Build* which highlighted the work done by the
Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team in the Philippines, especially in mapping
the town of Guagua, Pampanga.

Several members of the OSM-PH community however have observed that there
are missing and problematic narratives in the video related to the story it
tells of geospatial and humanitarian workers in the country.

Therefore, some of us have prepared and release the following statement:
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/images/a/aa/A_Call_to_Correct_Narratives_about_Geospatial_Work.pdf

As of writing, the video is now unavailable. Someone made
an archive of the video here:
https://catdrop.drycat.fr/r/BMnz2gzJ#2ZFAiINWEgHDU+ncv1ZHj78vQFB0/weneUJRC6L+XxQ=

The response from HOTOSM management was forwarded in the OSM PH mailing
list. We appreciate the response and actions moving forward:
https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/talk-ph/2020-September/006620.html

It's the time of the year! Happy International Women's Month!

Since 2018, the Information and Communications Technology Management Service

Women’s Month through MAPAbabaeworkshops. MAPAbabae is a fusion of mapa (map)

MAPAbababe 2020 aims to provide an introduction about women’sparticipation in
mapping/GIS/geospatial and a venue to discuss women’sperspectives in the same
field.  Theywill be taught to map places which are important to them as women
in paper anddigital.  Overall, the said activity will be aworkshop to encourage
visibility of women on the map, and on how we can mapthrough a collaborative
and gender-inclusive approach.

We have five (5) slots for the local mapping/GIS community and individuals who

Re: FEU Alabang YouthMappers Training

I agree with Erwin.
Suggestion: For Day 2, you can focus on Field Papers, Mapillary and other field
data gathering tools, then uploading and downloading the data you collected.
Also, make sure you have time for synthesis and for participants to share their
experience from what the activities. Medyo siksik na kung may JOSM sa Day2,
better focus on iD Editor.
Please share the outcome/feedback din through your OSM Diary or any social
media sites! :D Good luck!

Good Day,

The FEUTech YouthMappers has been invited to conduct a training for the
Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) in FEU Alabang, the new and  3rd
chapter of YouthMappers network in the Philippines. The training will cover all
the introduction and basic skills that they will be needing such as
informations about OpenStreetMap (OSM) and Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team
(HOT). This training will also cover the introduction and basic skills in OSM
ID Editor, JOSM, Mapillary and Field Papers.

This will be a 2-days training from July 10 - 11, 9am to 4pm for all officers
of ACM, all interested students and faculty members. Where the 1st day will
focus on fundamentals and workshop using ID Editor, while the 2nd day will
focus on using Field Papers, Mapillary and JOSM for their field mapping
experience.

We are going to use the Food Security task for the first day training while the
participants will be deployed to their designated area around FEU Alabang and
Festival Mall for Field Papers and Mapillary experience.

Here are the hashtags that we are going to use:
#FEUAlabangYM
#YouthMappers

That's goods news from the YouthMappers FEU chapter.

I wonder though why you want to include JOSM, when you only have two days
to cover all the other topics + the field work activity. I would suggest
you just focus on iD for editing -- it's powerful enough for most tasks,
including those activities you already outlined.

2019-03-18 Diskussionsfäden Arnalie Faye Vicario via talk-ph
Hello OhSoMe Mappers!

As part of the Women’s month, the Department of Social Work and Development
(DSWD) will be once again conducting a MAPAbabae activity entitled: "MAPAbabae:
When Women Map" on March 22, 2019, Friday, 1-5PM at the DSWD Central Office
Auditorium (4F Matapat Building), QC.

MAPAbabae 2019 would focus on women as agents of change and answer the
question: What happens when women map? The workshop aims to gather and inspire
women (and men) employees of the Department by sharing with them about
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and mapping as tools for development as
well as teach them to map features to raise visibility of women on the map.
We have ten (10) slots for OSM PH and other GIS persons to attend the event.
Please fill out the online form: http://bit.ly/MAPAbabae2019Registration to
confirm your attendance, and for the Activity Programs.

For any questions, please reply to this thread or ping me in telegram
@arnalielsewhere.
Thanks for the support and we hope to see you there! :)

Hello OSM Mappers!
As part of the Women's Month Celebration, DSWD would like to invite OSM
mappers/volunteers to participate in the activity: "MAPAbabae: OpenStreetMap
Workshop With Women and For Women" on March 22, 2018, 12NN - 5:30 PM at the
DSWD Central Office Auditorium (4F Matapat Building). The activity aims to
identify women and child-friendly spaces and facilities that would help in
providing the DSWD services, as well as other mapping priorities of women.
Participation is not limited to women only. This is a workshop and mapathon
with women, and FOR women, so men are also encouraged to participate in the
activity. However, there are only six (6) slots for OSM mappers/volunteers so
it will be a first come, first serve basis. Please fill out this form to
confirm your attendance.

Thank you and hope to see you there! :)
