[Talk-GB] Another curious school #OSMschools

2016-02-06 Thread Colin Spiller

Evening all

Robert's excellent school comparison shows up w164792334
 Menwith Hill Elementary and
High School in 'my' BD postcode area as not being in the Edubase list.
Well that's true - it isn't.
it was an American facility located at RAF Menwith Hill
 (really a USA base!).
As it happens, it closed last summer so I can add 'disused' and clear it
up - see
http://www.stripes.com/news/europe/menwith-hill-lajes-schools-close-for-good-1.352059
It was originally added by Yorvik Prestigitator
  nearly 2
years ago and it has a wikipedia page of it's own at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menwith_Hill_Elementary/High_School

I just wonder what I could have put for the Official ref!

[Talk-GB] What sport is this? #osmschools

2016-02-06 Thread Dave F

Hi

Bing aerial map:
http://binged.it/1STgxSc

While doing the schools project I've come across this grid layout on a
few occasions & I'm curious what activity/sport it's used for.

Who's got teenage kids that would know?

Cheers
Dave F.

I've seen a grid marked area like this used as a training pitch. The size
of the playing area can be easily reduced for 3 vs 3, 4 vs 4, etc.

I mark all pitches I see (either Bing or on the ground) These seasonal
pitches can often overlap. Rugby & Cricket being common place.

Have never seen that before, certainly not when mapping local schools.

I do wonder about the value of tracing seasonal pitches within schools,
whilst the local school has rugby and football pitches at the moment,
they will be gone after easter and replaced by athletics and cricket
markings.
