Freemap was of course one of the very first grassroots mapping sites (2004), together with my geowiki.com (2003 [1]), Jo and Schuyler's freemap.in (2005?), and OpenStreetMap itself (2004). We all converged on OSM sooner or later, but it's a worthwhile historical detail to remember the early days. ... sorry for all the emails: but further update - it's now up, but running HTTP not HTTPS (as it used to). Hopefully HTTPS will be enabled very soon. I have asked the new hosting provider about this; basically I want to run it as HTTPS but these DNS issues are preventing the certificate from being installed.
