Re: [Talk-GB] FW: [carto-soc] Maps available (London WC2)

2010-08-03 Thread Ciarán Mooney
Hi,

I'm nearby enough to pop-in. If someone tells me what I'm looking for
and I have someone else to pass them on to because I wouldn't know
what to do with them!

Re: [Talk-GB] GB Chapter

2010-04-26 Thread Ciarán Mooney
Hi,

Might be cool to set up a Saturday mapping party and social combined
somewhere easy to reach and needing some mapping between London and
 Birmingham.

That's a great idea! Could you suggest a date? Date's are usually more
of a problem for me than location.

Cheers,

[Talk-gb-westmidlands] WM Hack Day

2010-04-19 Thread Ciarán Mooney
Hi,

There was talk on Saturday about a OSM hack day in Birmingham. Was
there any preliminary dates for the event? I'm going to miss the
London event, and have an idea I'd like to try out (making an OSM
based A-Z).

2010-03-05 Thread Ciarán Mooney
Hi,

You'd be more than welcome!

Having contributed is not a requirement to attend a mapping party.

I was the same as you, just turned up to a weekend mapping event and
got shown the ropes, and now I try and fit some in when I can.

Re: [Talk-GB] Locating Postboxes article Guardian

2009-09-17 Thread Ciarán Mooney
Hi,

Also I've spoken to Draco in the past, and his website does not sync
with OSM. He has tried to get help with a mass import but the
discussion was rat-holed due to supposed problem deriving data from
Royal Mails postbox list.

http://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/legal-talk/2009-July/002560.html

I plan on emailing whoever responded to the original FOI request at
Royal Mail and see if we can get explicit permission to use the data.

Re: [Talk-GB] liam123's latest

2009-09-17 Thread Ciarán Mooney
Hi,

We seem unable to contact Liam123 via normal channels. This means we
have to think of other ways of contacting members who continually put
mistakes into the dataset.

Is it not possible to put a flag on his account, so when he logs in he
is told what he has been doing and asked to explain himself?
Preferably with a form box that forwards the message to this list?

Otherwise we are going to go around in circles trying to undo his
work, rather than solving the problem. We need to get him on our side
rather than just having him toy with something we feel is very
important.

Re: [Talk-gb-westmidlands] Mapping the University of Birmingham

2009-09-01 Thread Ciarán Mooney
Hi,

It is difficult, but possible. Both me and Christoph have tried to map
bits of the campus.

I found that I had to do it in a half traditional - half technical
manner. The attached picture explains it better.

Each X is a waypoint, taken a distance away from the building in an
area you get better GPS accuracy. And the black box is a building.

You sight along a wall of a building until you are exactly level with
it, take a waypoint and then go to the other side. In JOSM you can
then join the way points, and get a box.

Brian has another way of doing, by using a compass, but I haven't got
a compass, and I'm not sure of the accuracy/distances involved.

Good luck with Birmingham University, I may have a crack at it too in
the next few weeks.

[Talk-GB] UKUUG - Summer 2009 - Birmingham

2009-06-23 Thread Ciarán Mooney
Hi,

UKUUG are looking for a talk about OSM for their Summer 2009
conference in Birmingham, I was the go-to-guy, however I may not be
the best person to present to the technical audience that are likely
to attend.

Is anyone else willing to do a talk.

Andy and Shaun : As I didn't hear anything concrete, I thought it best
to open it to a wider audience.
