Re: [Talk-GB] [Talk-gb-westmidlands] New St station platform alignments
I think it’s likely the only possible changes since New Street was built would be at the throats between the ends of the various tunnels and the start of each platform. There is little if any scope for change along the lengths of the platforms themselves because the supporting columns for the upper structure all pass through them. I went through the new station last week and used it various times during construction work and saw/can see no evidence to changes at platform level except cosmetics. Re: [Talk-GB] [Talk-gb-westmidlands] New St station platform alignments
Thanks for all your unput. It seems Andy's suggestion is the best: to align the platforms with the elevator/stairs/escalator positions in the concourse plan. I'l use that approach once I'm sure the concourse is aligned as best as I can get it. Re-aligning the platforms will take some time and will not all be done in one session, so please be patient when the tracks/platforms don't seem right during the transition. regards Brian On 25 September 2015 at 23:38, Lester Cainewrote: > On 25/09/15 23:22, Lester Caine wrote: > > On 25/09/15 22:48, Graham Jones wrote: > >> I'm pretty sure there have been no changes to the tracks or major > >> building structures at station platform level - I didn't see any > >> evidence of heavy work like that on my travels anyway. > > > > http://maps.nls.uk/view/101584678 > > The later maps just have black boxes over the station area. > > I know the turntable area was cleared to put the electrification gear > > in, but the British Rail line books should clarify if there were other > > changes. I'm not sure about the platforms, but I do know that the track alignment on the Wolverhampton side is not fully correct, and possibly copied from Bing without a field survey. It would be nice if somebody could fix this as well. -- Matthijs ___ Talk-GB mailing list Talk-GB@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-gb
Re: [Talk-GB] [Talk-gb-westmidlands] New St station platform alignments
I've certainly found that in most large shopping centres/malls etc., support elements are usually regularly spaced, and at least estimating what this spacing is & using it to correlate with features observable from outside can help refine positioning. Obviously platform lifts & escalators fit this pattern too.
