[Talk-gb-thenorth] Adding Leeds Bins to OpenStreetMaps

2020-03-24 Thread Patrick Lake
Hi,

At ODI Leeds<https://odileeds.org/> we’re working with Leeds City Council to
create an up-to-date, open dataset of bins and recycling points. Different
parts of the council have different datasets about bins and recycling points –
e.g the bins around Leeds market are maintained by a different department.
Nobody has a full, exhaustive list of all of them, so we’d like to get them all
in one place.

We think Open Street Maps would be perfect for this, as it’s ‘open by default’.
We’re building them a tool using the API & OAuth so that council workers will
be able to quickly add bins (amenity=waste_basket and amenity=recycling) from
their phones. We’d also like to add their existing
dataset<https://datamillnorth.org/dataset/litter-bin-locations>, which is
published under OGLv3, to Open Street Maps. We have buy-in from Leeds City
Council but under the import
guidelines<https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Import/Guidelines> we also need
community buy-in, and we’d really like some feedback from the OSM community.

Here’s a quick map we
made<https://mapper.odileeds.org/?10/53.85050/-1.47903/datamill-38356ad9-a184-44c1-a4f0-055ac71356ec;osm-leeds-waste_basket>
comparing the Leeds City Council dataset of bins (yellow markers) to the OSM
amenity=waste_baskets for Leeds (black markers). We’re aware that there is
probably duplicates so we’ll be taking steps to remove those.

We’d appreciate any comments or feedback.

Cheers,
Patrick Lake

Re: [Talk-gb-thenorth] Alsager Town - Incorrect data

2017-06-22 Thread Paul Berry
Hi Dan,

I'm not sure why it's taken 10 days for your message to reach the
distribution list--that's another matter--but it's left enough time your
updates to be rendered. Alsager appears to be in order.

Regards,
*Paul*

[Talk-gb-thenorth] Alsager Town - Incorrect data

2017-06-22 Thread Dan Levin
Hi all,

As of today, Alsager appears to be showing as Alsager - Domino's Pizza or
Alsager; Domino's Pizza on a few different views of OSM. I've taken a stab
at fixing it, but I'm uncertain if I've done so correctly - certainly if
you search for Alsager, you still see mention of Domino's Pizza in both the
Railway Station and the Administrative Boundary fields, so perhaps there's
a hierachy which requires correction.

Could someone please take a look?

Many thanks,
Dan

[Talk-gb-thenorth] UK OSM Company

2017-01-20 Thread Rob Nickerson
Hi,

Realised I hadn't posted this to the regional mailing lists so here it is:

The OpenStreetMap United Kingdom Community Interest Company has now been
established. Should you wish to take part in the first meeting please join
for free as a member. You can do that, and read about our aims at:

Re: [Talk-gb-thenorth] Proposal to do some mapping in North Lancashire

2016-05-13 Thread Chris Hill
It's great that you want to add to the map data. Please do not add the
OS OpenMap Local building outlines. They are heavily simplified and as
such, poor quality. You can't distinguish how many residences there are
in a building outline, so is it detached, semi-detached or a terrace?
Adding buildings is valuable, but I believe in quality not quantity, so
I would trace building outlines from aerial images and not import the
'dumbed-down' OS Open data. Let's make the best map we can, not just
import OS's deliberately reduced quality stuff.

Cheers,
Chris (chillly)

BTW, this list list is almost dead. If you really want to reach people I
would use talk-gb.

[Talk-gb-thenorth] Maptime Durham

2015-09-08 Thread Gregory
Hello North GB!

I've started a Maptime chapter in Durham, if you're nearby then pop along
and join us.
http://maptime.io/durham/

Maptime isn't specifically OpenStreetMap, but it could be a great place to
discuss the mapping we do and meet the usernames improving the map
together. Welcome to all that like talking about or hearing about maps.

Any questions or thoughts, send me a message.

Re: [Talk-gb-thenorth] ?

2014-09-09 Thread Gregory
Oh,
I was considering requesting a North East mailing list and then found
this one already exists (I was subscribed too).

I might encourage people to join so events can be announced through the
list. I'm also looking to organise event(s) in Durham or Sunderland in the
future.

We could do with some increased activity, addresses show just one aspect
that is lacking.

P.S. Apologies to Tim moderating the list, I struggled to remember which of
my e-mail addresses I had registered with.

[Talk-gb-thenorth] List moderator

2012-04-02 Thread Simon Ward
Hi lists,

Sadly, I don’t foresee much future involvement with OSM, so I’m looking
for someone to take over moderation of talk-gb-thenorth.

You only have to see the months missing from the archives[1] to see that
it is a very low traffic list. (The two messages last year were from me
forwarding event details—is it worth keeping the list running?) Mostly
it’s just discarding spam (or leaving it to be automatically discarded),
and IIRC there hasn’t been a spark to ignite a flame since the list was
created.

Tim Waters (aka Chippy) is also a moderator.
