2020-11-01 Thread nwastra nwastra
Hi
I have noticed that a lot of buildings were removed in this edit and no
explanation was given by changeset comment.
The mapper replied "This was part of the firewater map-a-thon hosted by SSSI
hosted last weekend. One of the validators requested for the building polygons
to be removed"
https://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/93354729#map=17/-38.52878/143.97447

https://nrenner.github.io/achavi/?changeset=93354729

I am wondering if this is happening in other areas. The project doesn’t appear
to map any buildings near the water storages even if next to rural residences.
I am suspicious that the buildings were considered to be seen to be cluttering
up their tanks visibility.

Is anyone able to confirm if the buildings still exist or were razed by fire or
other reason.

[OSM-talk] New native/web OSM renderer based on A/B Street

2020-11-01 Thread Dustin Carlino
Hi,

Demo: http://abstreet.s3-website.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/osm_demo/
Connect 2020 talk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUN5GWfb4Qo

I've been working on https://abstreet.org, a traffic simulation game built
from OSM data, designed for cycling and public transit advocacy. A/B Street
renders individual lanes, infers geometry for intersections, models turn
lanes and restrictions, and infers lots of detail for traffic signal timing
and parking lot capacity. Recently I split out an OSM viewer just to show
off these details, letting you do quick visual Q/A on things like lane
tagging. The viewer runs on web (via WebAssembly and WebGL) and natively
(Mac, Windows, and Linux via OpenGL). As a disclaimer, changing maps is
much clunkier on the web than native, but I'm working on it.

One key difference from most slippy maps is that this viewer downloads a
single file per region (scoped right now to the core of a city, but the
boundary is configurable). You can't pan over to anywhere in the world, but
once you've loaded a map, everything should be extremely fast -- moving
around, zooming, querying tags on objects. I've imported a few places from
bbike, and I can add or adjust the boundary of anywhere you like. See
https://dabreegster.github.io/abstreet/howto/new_city.html or reply here
with a link to a geojson.io file.

I have a few asks of y'all:

1) What should this viewer do to add value to the community? I'm not
looking into making a general purpose renderer, more like an array of small
renderers specialized for purposes like Q/A on lanes, exploring POIs, etc.
2) Do you have any other use cases or ideas how to use things like the road
geometry?
3) Are you interested in developing anything from this? If so, I'd like to
work with you to design an appropriate API for consuming the internal map
format.
4) If you're interested in the core mission of A/B Street, I'd love
collaborators for things like
https://github.com/dabreegster/abstreet/issues/372 (modeling public transit
better).

Thanks!
-Dustin

I would recommend leaving this to UK mappers who understand the UK
postcode system Postcodes don't indicate buildings in the UK - they
indicate postal delivery points. Don't try and find logic where none
exists...

The relationship is n:m. You cannot ask "what is the postcode for this
building" - you have to ask "what postcodes have a delivery point in
this building". You cannot ask "which building does this postcode
indicate", you have to ask "which buildings have a delivery point with
this postcode."___

   I'd go for:

   * Remove addr:postcode= from the building's area and add a note=This building has two postcodes, X and Y

   * Add two new nodes within the area of the building (not connecting to the area), add all addr:*= with the respective postcodes and add a note=This building (link to way/area of building) has two postcodes, this node is for levels A thru B.

   * Change the Note in the area to display the links to the Postcode Nodes.

The diagnostic page https://www.townlands.ie/progress/ is throwing up lots of

https://adresse.data.gouv.fr/donnees-nationales

Confusion encore dans la suite :

Re: [OSM-talk] reddit AMA with some OSMF Board members. 15:00Z 9 Nov

2020-11-01 Thread joost schouppe
I think this is really an upside down reading of what is happening here. Of
course we will make an active effort to do our main communications on open
platforms. But it would be totally absurd to refuse an invitation to talk
to people, just because their channel isn't 100% open. That would
effectively mean Board members cannot talk to anyone or at any place that
isn't 100% open and equally accessible to all - so for example, not a
single physical event would be possible.

Christoph's solution isn't hard: any day is AMA on OSMF-talk, so just ask
your questions already. Tag them AMA, and I'll post them to spanholz.
Afterwards, we can totally copy the contents of the thread on some wiki
after the event.

If there's another place that wants to set up a chat with members of the
Board, our doors have never been more open.

Re: [OSM-talk-be] opendata for cemetery in Namur

2020-11-01 Thread joost schouppe
Hi,

I don't see why not, if you follow the
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Import/Guidelines
Basically: make sure the data is good and is imported in a decent way; make
sure the community isn't opposed to it; check the license; discuss on the
import mailing list

As for the license, the CC-BY link on that page refers to CC-BY-4.0, which
unfortunately does mean you need an extra waiver for use in OSM.
More details at:https://blog.openstreetmap.org/2017/03/17/use-of-cc-by-data/

Good luck,
Joost

Re: [OSM-talk-fr] De la BAN dans BANO... enfin !

2020-11-01 Thread JB

Bonjour Vincent,
http://bano.openstreetmap.fr/fantoir/#insee=89368=5.

constructives.

[talk-au] Fwd: Please sign up as a member of OSGeo Oceania, and vote

2020-11-01 Thread John Bryant
Hi,

Please see email below re: participation in upcoming OSGeo Oceania
elections.

OSGeo Oceania is the official Oceania Local Chapter of the OpenStreetMap
Foundation, so these elections directly affect the OSM community.

Thanks
John

Hi all,

I want to make an appeal for people in this community to take 2 minutes and
register as a member of OSGeo Oceania, so you can vote in the upcoming
board election. Voting runs from 29 Nov - 6 Dec [1], so there's not really
any time to waste.

The organisation hasn't been proactively recruiting new members since the
last intake in November 2019, so it's up to you to make the effort to
register.

I believe OSGeo Oceania could play a crucial role in activating and
knitting together our regional community, but it's up to us to get engaged,
hold the organisation accountable, and ensure it does what it takes. If you
agree, sign up as a member and make sure your voice is heard.

If you're not on the member register

[2], sign up!

Registration form is here

[3].

Thanks
John

p.s. you can learn more about membership on the Oceania wiki [4].
