It's true but it can just add a POI (and upload a GPX trace, and file a bug). If it's what it's all about here and if it's worth it, I can introduce an Osmand request. I am subscribed on Osmand. Isn't there a way to indicate in the change set that the update came from Osmand? I think it would be a good thing to ask. Let us put up together the text of the request first, OK? Cheers, André. Andre, What do you mean by adding a POI without updating the map? I've never used Osmand and have troubles imagining how that works. I mean that Osmand cannot generally update (edit) the map but that in can *just* add/update/delete a POI. In fact, it can modify any tag on a node (waypoint) but it can't move them or deal with ways, let alone relations. It can also add GPX traces and OSM Notes. It is possible to indicate how the update was made. If you open the last changeset of the user in question (http://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/20086153) you will see that it is tagged created_by=iD 1.5.3. The same for all changesets of this user that I checked. That is why I assume he uses iD (the standard editor you get when you click Edit on the main map). If Osmand puts that tag, it is a bug. But as long as there is no proof of it I would wait with a bugreport. Here there is no proof, only a suggestive username. I checked that Osmand correctly identifies itself and the user name in change sets, except for Notes which can be written without identification. It stacks all requests, possibly offline, and they're sent in a batch. Marc, Thank you for pointing out that JOSM shows a popup when you have a message. I didn't know that. I'm clearly not getting a lot of messages from you guys. Glenn, Same answer as always I'm afraid. Try to contact the user, but if the user doesn't respond there is not much you can do but correcting the errors of others. It has happened many times before and it will happen again in the future. Wouldn't it be a nice feature to be able to send a user a message like Subject: read before updating that would block the updates? Unfortunately, our world would make fear for abuse. We're not in paradise and even there I've heard that God's coordinates are kept secret. When preparing the dataset we could have had half of the streets NL - FR and the other half FR - NL arbitrarily... but I/we chose not to do that for hopefully obvious reasons. It would have been 'fair', of course, but I don't think it would have been better. Where I wouldn't mind 'cleaning up' is in the faciliteitengemeentes, just outside of Brussels and elsewhere. In the ones with 'faciliteiten' for the French, it should be: name = Blablastraat name:nl = Blablastraat name:fr = Rue Blabla And in the others name = Rue Blabla name:nl = Blablastraat name:fr = Rue Blabla Now it's very often name = Rue Blabla - Blablastraat For the bus stops, I'm having a bit of a problem in our multilingual country as well. Re: [OSM-talk] New Mapfeatures (Views) on openstreetmap.org: Proposal for additional
Indeed, Alexander,as nebulon says, adding or changing the features is complicated. Some layers shown on OSM.org are from third party providers. The cartographer responsible for each rendering will have very strong opinions on what they have selected and why. Your opinions may differ. In fact the opinion of every other cartographer is likely to differ. :-) The most successful way to get a change that you support into a rendering is to either 1 do it yourself by making your own version of the existing rendering,or creating one from a clean slate. You don't need permission, and you may publish your own tiles in your own style, as permitted by the open licenses of the data and software. Your version might become more popular than the other. 2 make your own version in the form of a patch to an existing rendering. Do all of the work to get it right. Even better if you can benchmark your changes to show that they don't create performance issues. Then offer the patch to the maintainer of the existing rendering. This still might not work, again, they may have considered the thing you want, and may have rejected it long ago for their own reasons. 3 join up with others who are like minded and do one or the other above,or a combination of both. There are many different renderings of OpenStreetMap data, and that is a wonderful diversity. No single rendering can ever hope to satisfy every use case. 4 you might have happened onto an idea that is on the wish list of the maintainer of the existing rendering. So ask if they would like help to implement your idea in a way that also meets their thoughts. It could be that they had no time to implement what you seek, but would consider including it. ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk
[OSM-talk] Can I use OpenStreetMaps for my case?
Hi all! Can I use your maps for my map-based website with leaflet? It is a drupal website for everyone, also for companies, NGO and common people with database filled by these users. I'm not sure with this: a) Website is visited by a lot of users at the same time - for example I have found that I can't use tiles on my website 'cause there are limits for bandwidth (http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tile_usage_policy). But are there also any other limits for simple map with leaflet? Re: [OSM-talk] Can I use OpenStreetMaps for my case?
Matej, You'll probably get more thorough answers from others -- or link(s) to page(s) that explain this in detail. .. But in short: Mixing data and license: If you are only using an OSM data derived map layer as a background map that you don't allow your users to e.g. geo-tag objects and you're only plotting data (with coordinates from something else than OSM) from your database then you are not mixing data and you can license your db in what ever way you want. On tile usage: OSM.org (and most free OSM sources) have limiting tile usage policy (for obvious reasons). Last time I read/heard MapQuest's OSM tiles are more liberal. I don't see explicit note on the topic on their page about their OSM tiles (http://developer.mapquest.com/web/products/open/map). Someone might know better -- or your can read for your self with better time to see if you can find this info. You might also want to consider commercial tiles. They are really not expensive -- and it's the right thing to do (if you exceed the usage policy limits). There are numerous providers available from companies that you can handle everything without a need to send an email or talk with anyone (such as Cloudmade and Mapbox) to various individual OSM consultants and companies that can meet your tile needs (thinking of Andy Allan / Thunderforesthttp://www.thunderforest.com/and Frederik Ramm / Geofabrik http://www.geofabrik.de/ but there are many morehttp://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Commercial_OSM_Software_and_Services ). [OSM-talk] Details about wooded belt in Saratov Oblast?
Dear Russian readers (and others of course), today, using the OSM slippy map, I came across a regular structure in the Saratov Oblast, Russia. Map data and aerial images suggest it be wood or stripes of wood. It looks like a barrier. Against what or whom? Or when was it grown? The belt starts near 52.9420 N, 49.7866 E, some twenty kilometres south of the city of Samara, and continues in south-western direction before it is interrupted at 50.5091 N, 47.1980 E. Its width is fairly constant at about 1 km, but every now end then the belt's character changes from a thick solid line to a four-striped grid of wooded lines with a width of 50 to 80 metres each. It eventually continues further south-western at 45.9253 N, 43.7038 E near Elista and goes on with smaller interruptions as far as to the northern foothills of the Caucasus at 44.0751 N, 42.2211 E. In length measuring several hundred kilometres, the belt is pretty distinctive. By the way, there are similar structures smaller in width around Samara. And there is a nice M-character at position 45.5352 N, 43.0252 E. It has no counterpart in aeral images, neither Google's nor Bing's, and seems to have been part of a bigger formation of alphabetic characters become landscape (just west of it remnants can be seen). Vandalism? Since I'm not familiar with the described area, I'd like to know what all this is about. Maybe someone might shed some light on these objects? I'd be grateful for any hints, since an extensive search on the net did not provide me with any hard facts. Sadly there is no English version of that wiki page, but you can read about that and other forest belts using google translation: http://tinyurl.com/windforest . Those forest belts were planted in Soviet era for protection against wind erosion, like Christoph has guessed. By the way, there are similar structures smaller in width around Samara. Vandalism? It is not vandalism, but selectively mapped farm lands. There are too many farms, and a mapper chose to draw only those that form the letter. There have been such cases in other resions, and mappers generally don't object to such art, considering anyone can map more farmlands to erase a symbol. Rodar o validador e procurar pelo aviso Multipolygon is not closed. 2.

Além disso, para incentivar a discussão neste tópico, deixava o seguinte link: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Potential_Datasources#Out-of-copyright_mapping Licenses - We are only interested in 'free' data. In fact we must be able to release their data with our OpenStreetMap License . This means it's OK to use Public Domain data ; for other sources, please check license compatibility. Além disso Em baixo diz Accuracy/Quality - All GIS data is limited in terms of accuracy and coverage of features. Some datasources are very basic.

[Talk-GB] UK Open Government Licence
Hello, My first post here so apologies if anything is wrong. I initially asked this question in the OSM UK Forum but got no response. Norfolk County Council offer Public Rights of Way data on this page :- http://maps.norfolk.gov.uk/inspire/ (last row of the NCC block). It is issued under Open Government Licence :- http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/doc/ ... version/2/ http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/doc/open-government-licence/version/2/ These open licence terms are all very confusing (open not always meaning open). Therefore my question is, can I copy the RoW lines from the WMS maps (which open in JOSM) and use the data in OSM? Re: [Talk-us] Local user groups
I agree with Alex and Paul here. It would be ideal to say Oh we can replicate the functionality of a user calendar- that's absolutely true. The discovery functionality is what's not replicatable. I've had one user here in NYC who does not wish to participate on the meetup because he doesn't want to sign up, but wanted to be kept informed about events and discussion. At this time, there's an ical feed for events, and an RSS/Atom feed for the mailing list. This doesn't allow for full participation, but it allows anyone who doesn't want to sign up to Meetup to be kept informed of the events. Additionally, a third party could collect all the ical feeds and construct a calendar. This is not ideal, but neither is Facebook, or Google, or any other third party service, and it's a lot better than the alternatives. - Serge On Wed, Jan 15, 2014 at 6:27 PM, Alex Barth a...@mapbox.com wrote: On Tue, Jan 14, 2014 at 3:25 PM, Clifford Snow cliff...@snowandsnow.us wrote: However the cost is expensive for individuals to start a Meetup group.
