Re: [talk-ph] cebu map errors
Hi, Thanks for the comments about Cebu. If you have noticed names to add or correct, please add them. I try to add road names when I can, but I'm local since 5 years only. I still need to rely on road name signs, and they are quite rare in many parts of Cebu. I also used shop signboards, but its difficult to drive and look out of the passenger window at the same time ^_^ So often I just add the road without name, hoping that others, eventually without GPS, will add them... Regarding the separate ways, I started to add them in Mactan and Mandaue. I come less often in the center/south of Cebu city, so I don't have reliable traces of both lanes. But little by little I correct the double carriage ways there too. Unfortunately there is no satellite imagery available here, so all needs to be traced by GPS. Quezon highway leading to Mactan shrine) Some segments of Juan Luna Avenue, including the SM Cebu segment, has a center island therefore should be depicted as two separate ways . this will mess up routing in the area as well and considering it's a frequently visited place I will correct the missing names later but, again, I can't make corrections on Juan Luna though, better let a local edit it ___ talk-ph mailing list talk-ph@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-ph
Re: [talk-ph] better ways to coordinate coastline mapping?
Here's a little bit more elaboration on the problem of coastlines in Mapnik. This information can be found at the OSM Wiki: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Coastline Unlike every other feature in the OSM database, coastlines are rendered differently in Mapnik. The Mapnik rendering software needs closed polygons to render areas, and since coastlines are the largest and most basic polygons there is on any map, OSM has to ensure that it feeds Mapnik closed coastlines in order to coherently show seas and islands. For zoom levels 0-9, OSM ignores all coaslines data in OSM and uses the public domain VMAP0 data. For zoom levels higher than 9, OSM uses the Coastline error checker tool http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Coastline_error_checker to generate closed shapefiles that Mapnik can use. This tool is only run infrequently and that is why coastlines do not update often in Mapnik. I thought you were saying that the coastline of Palawan (yes, the main island) was 99% free of jagged coastlines. But when I look at it I can see about 30% unjagged, and 70% jagged. eg http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=9.1627lon=118.2309zoom=13layers=B000FTF Am I looking at the wrong thing here? Try the osmarender layer http://osm.org/go/4nECSgr?layers=0B00FTF Mapnik coastlines doesn't update too often. Re: [talk-ph] cebu map errors
Hi Totor, already added the missing street names mostly in Mandaue near the vicinity of Parkmall (there are many roads named Cabahug, Seno and Cortes hehe) I was able to notice the errors since I'm just a professional passenger. Also note there are missing ways in the area across SM City and Juan Luna Avenue. The new location of CnT Lechon Cebu's there as well as Conching Native Chicken resto (added already). Also noticed the lack of satellite imagery in the area considering it's Cebu :( Hi Alvin, will file bugs there next time, i post errors/bugs on my alternate pathetic blog. most errors I noticed are the center islands or turn restrictions my next trip's gonna be up north in Sta. Cruz, Ilocos Sur and will probably visit Vigan again. I'll try to pass by Mindanao Avenue NLEX link now :P On 7/15/10, Totor totor_...@yahoo.com wrote: Hi, Thanks for the comments about Cebu.
