DC went great with about 25 people showing up. Had a great conversation
here with steven johnson about going more directly after student
participants. Maybe a model for other editathons too? For dc, it definitely
helps branding the editathon as explicitly open to beginners. We routinely
have about 10 pple show up who havent done much openstreetmap before.

Re: [Talk-us] Last call spring #editathon

2014-04-29 Thread Clifford Snow
Seattle's event had a good turn out. We had about 9 people, although some
people came late and others left early. We had a mix of new people and
experienced ones. Thanks to the OSM-US we now have OSM vests that Paul
Norman brought down from Vancouver. It is interesting that we had new
people that have never mapped before and new to OSM but have a background
in GIS. As a side note, the iD introduction is great for getting people
going. We just have to help with how to tag items.

We did have a lively discussion on copying data (don't.)

Now, where are the statistics from this weekend?

We had a big turnout in San Francisco, with about 40 people showing up over the
course of the day. We think we had a peak of about 30 people all at the same
time in the early afternoon, around 2-3pm. By the end of the day the numbers
dwindled to about a dozen.

Big thanks to Telenav for buying pizzas for the contributors who stayed until
dinner time!

as going out and surveying is something #editathons should actively
encourage.

Re: [Talk-us] Last call spring #editathon

Me too. I will be hosting in an area with lots of new construction,
businesses etc. Should be fun for mappers to explore, and use mobile tools
to edit perhaps. (I love Pushpin!!)

I decided to go with the Maptime moniker for the local OSM / geo group.
Just focusing on OSM we just haven't been able to grow the group as much as
we wanted to. Here's the new web site: http://maptimeslc.org/ Perhaps
something to consider for smaller cities?

Also I started a new and hopefully easier way to put your local
OpenStreetMap group on a map. The old way requires you to add a template to
the wiki, and that ends up being too big a hurdle. So now, to get your
local OSM group on this map right here:
https://github.com/osmlab/localgroups/blob/master/osmgroups.geojson - all
you need to do is go to https://github.com/osmlab/localgroups and follow
the simple instructions.

Have a great edit-a-thon Saturday!
