Re: [Talk-us] Routing tests
@Richard, I've split the page into 2 digit ( http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/User:JohnANovak/Interstates) and 3 digit entries (http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/User:JohnANovak/Interstates3d) for better wiki update behavior @Charlotte, If there are missing entries, please let me know and I'll add them. If you mean status updates, then log in to the wiki, click the edit button at top right of the page. If you're changing status for a complete state segment, then you can simply update that row. If you're working a smaller segment, you can duplicate the full row entry, update status and notes (with the area you've fixed) as appropriate, and save. If I'm missing the point of your question, message me off list and we can discuss further. Re: [Talk-us] Routing tests
I just made another set of tiles that should help find routing problems along interstates. I noticed that the bot often removed the highway=* tag but left the oneway=* tag. So I looked for ways with oneway tags without a highway tag. I had to filter out some common ones like waterway and ski piste. I suppose I should have just filtered out ways last touched by the bot too but there were some interesting ones by other people as well so there might be some false positives. I may filter on just bot edits next update though. This is my first use of leaflet and I haven't figured out all the intricacies of permalinks and layers yet so excuse the inconvenience but you have to go to the page then use the layer control to turn off the node layer and turn on the oneway layer. Right now it is only down to z10 but that is worldwide. Tomorrow I will see about making some higher zoom levels in higher density areas. This map I can also update as progress is made. The current data is from somewhere around 5 PM CDT on Friday. http://ni.kwsn.net/~toby/OSM/maps/redaction.html Toby ___ Talk-us mailing list Talk-us@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-us
Re: [Talk-us] Routing tests
It may appropriate to consider several metrics, but I also think it important to get a first version running. Another way of saying this is iterate and add refinements over time. Metrics to consider (pre vs post redaction) in roughly order of complexity: 1. Distance of route (using segment lengths, not end point to end point) 2. Number of ways/way segments traversed (rough but perhaps useful) 3. Actual route. For example, in the case of NY to LA, it is reasonable to expect that once the route enters a motorway at one end, it will stay on motorways or motorway_links until near the endpoint. It might be appropriate to run both directions and use the first entry into a motorway at either end as the "near the endpoint" locations. This might be computed using pre-redaction data. 4. Over time, as fixes are applied, tighten difference checks to finer precision results. According to the wiki page, the old system used the as-the-crow-flies distance between two cities as a basis. If it was more than 50% longer, something is wrong. Not sure if that would still give appropriate results or not though... There may be enough connectedness now on secondary roads that the distance isn't off by quite that much any more even with routing problems. I just did a route on OSRM from NY to LA and it came out to just under 3,000 miles which seems about right but there are some obvious routing errors. For example it gets off of I-70 and goes through town in Saint Clairsville, Ohio but it is about the same distance so things like this won't show up in the grid.
