Thanks Mike,

Looks good. I've already found a serious routability issue with an
unedited TIGER road in the Houston area. -I'm fixing it now.

This one has TIGER 2016, and probably will be updated to TIGER 2017 when
it is released. The JOSM Imagery URL would be

tms:https://api.mapbox.com/styles/v1/openstreetmapus/ciskq55qi003d2yn18dllw09w/tiles/256/{zoom}/{x}/{y}?access_token=pk.eyJ1Ijoib3BlbnN0cmVldG1hcHVzIiwiYSI6ImNpc2x0eGF1MjBhZTIydXB1eTkxbTdrdXoifQ.9reDkEfppIvAOfAD3tRDJQ

I agree that it's very useful when that area's TIGER data is updated.

Is there anything we can do, OSMwise, for communities in the path of

Anything that may be useful for search and recovery would be a priority.

Hi Brian,

>From the TxDOT website I see that the road data is updated yearly, but
unfortunately the data was last published at the end of 2015.

One think I would like to make sure of, is that Texas roads are up-to-date
so that any new subdivisions that may be water affected are actually on the
OSM map.

A couple of years ago there was a "Tiger missing and misaligned 2015" layer
that I found really usefull for bringing many US cities and towns
up-to-date.

Do you know if there is (or plans for) a more recent version of this, maybe
Tiger 2017???

Also if there was a layer like this that only had missing/misaligned roads
where the Tiger data had a name tag, then new sub-divisions and any missing
streets could be easily added, all over the US (once Texas is updated).

Cliff,

Thanks for pointing out the png issue. If you choose png format, JOSM
will automatically make it transparent, because it adds transparent=true
to the generated WMS URL. And best to choose image/png; mode=8bit to
reduce the size of the image generated on the server, which helps with
speed on slow connections.

Also, if anyone has suggestions on the styling, please chime in. The
labels are a bit large, but they stand out.

The URL would be
http://maps.mapwise.com/cgi-bin/mapserv?map=maps/fmo-base-osm-texas.map=true

After selecting the layer using the Get Layers, change the image from
image/jpeg to image/png

Then you are good to go.

Storm chaser locations are shown on OSM in real time and
there are video feeds from some of them. So that means you
can get real time video of what the ground looks like! Lots
of flooding already happening along the coast.

I find it interesting that US is called on to save the world. Will there be
a HOT activating for Texas? Will we get any new imagery for the area? Are
local agencies so well prepared that there is no need to use OSM?

Basically, yes. Part of your tax dollars go to building rather extensive
geospatial datasets for situations just like this. It's always helpful to
improve OSM data, but the best use of our time will probably be in
digitizing post-event imagery when it becomes available.
