What is the preferred ref tag shorthand for forest service roads? I found
one wiki page[1] that specifies NFR is to be used, which I don't think I've
ever heard before. I can't find any supporting documentation, including
discussions, mailing list threads, votes, etc. That info appears to have
been added last year.

I'm used to hearing them called FS ## (e.g., FS 13). In the discussion
page for that wiki, there is one single post devoted to the subject, which
suggests FS, FR, and FSR as candidates. The same post links to a Colorado
GIS group's Google Group thread on the subject, which includes feedback
from actual US Forest Service people, and NFR is nowhere to be found in
their comments.

My query is more than just an intellectual exercise; recently I've begun
seeking out various forest roads to investigate and improve the mapping of,
both for personal reasons and to get them right on the map. As many
OSM-based routers and map utilities work offline, they are the ideal tool
to use if you want to go camping, fishing, or just exploring in the woods,
since many of these areas are without cell coverage (at least in north
Georgia).

Any thoughts, feedback, comments, or criticism would be appreciated.
