Howdy. I just uploaded pix of the new R.Wood two point to my Flickr
account. Here's the link:

I got the first of the revised R.Wood two-points  on Thursday. It is a
faithful reproduction of No.1. I sat No. 1 and the repro side by
side and I will have to say, they are strikingly similar. The new one
has gold hardware (Randy's choice) which includes Elite tuners w/black
buttons and traditional tailpiece with R. Wood engraved in the
cover. I'm thinking maybe about looking into a cast tailpiece. There
is a gold ring on the top side for strap near the neck joint.
Currently, the bridge and fingerboard are ebony, but Randy says he
thinks we ought to go to rosewood on both to match the rosewood
overlay on the headstock. I agree. The board has a very slight
radius(bleh) with larger than standard frets, which make it play very
fast. Neck is more to my liking even than on No.1 with it's shallow
V shape. The pick guard is plain 1/2 size tortoise which will
eventually have an autograph inlay in it, but not on this one. Back/
sides are maple, the back a striking one-piece flame. Workmanship is
impeccable and is finished in varnish.

I plugged in the two-point and the pickup sounds solid and full. I'll
say that it beats the Gil with the Baggs Radius hands down. It will be
nice to have only the end pin jack and nothing to knock off. All in
all, this mandolin is hands down more to my liking, plays well, sounds
good(both plugged in and acoustically), looks good, feels good. I
think Randy's got a winner this time.

   1. I'm looking forward to hearing it next to No. 1 and seeing how
it  sounds with electricity running through it too (I wonder where my
boost box went to?). Should be a fun way to spend a Thursday. Come

Re: EC Sugarcanes in Europe

2010-03-31 Thread mistertaterbug
Yessir. I'm taking it to play, period, not to try out. I've already
played it enough to know it'll do the job well. The R.Wood sounds
better electrified than does the Gil with pickup stuck on it. It's
simpler to use(nothing to fall off or knock off), plays fast, stays in
tune, plays in tune. As I mentioned in another post, there's pics of
this one on my Flickr account if anyone wants to see it. Better yet,
call Randy and buy the other one so he'll make me one with a flat
fingerboard. G

I need a better case to put it in, though. I wonder if there's an
anvil case out there with my name on it?
