:-)

Looking forward to hearing everyone's versions: I learned something
and want to steal bits from every one so far, and even the horrible
process of sitting there with the camera rolling is useful.
And I hope there will be a Tater version at month's end.

Now for grubs, there were some excellent, fat, fine white ones on
display as I shovelled compost in the rain this morning.

Re: Song of the Month-December 2010

2010-12-06 Thread mgromkey
I don't know if this'll help the effort, but as Don pointed out to me
in a sidebar discussion, the Hatcher version, and the reference video
of the two women playing fiddle, plays the B part one and a half
times. In the middle of the second time through, Hatcher has kind of a
brain bubble, drags out an A chord, and inexplicably kicks back to bar
1. Truly kinky. Tater's gentlemanly transcript has a straight repeat
on the B part, which is a lot more civilized. There is, however,
something appealing about the more insane version.

Below is a link to an interesting Exhibition Of Weird Fiddle Tunes
found when I Googled Hatcher as an alternative to actually doing work
at the end of the day. It's filled with amusing observations about old-
time fiddlers who seem to have taken composition lessons from
aliens.

2010-12-06 Thread kathy nichols
Thank you for bring this up. I wondered if I was the only one
confused by the difference between the mp3, the youtube, and the tab.

I went to a jam this weekend and asked an old time fiddler there if he
knew Hatcher's version of Grub Springs. He promptly played the
straight version of the tune found on most of the other youtube
videos.
He has played around Michigan for many years, just never heard the
crooked version but thought the one he played was Hatcher's version.

I find working on one measure at a time is helping some. Still
confused about which fingers to use on the slides, especially in the
7th measure.

Interesting spelling for the blogger's first name
Daevid.kinda crooked.

It's filled with amusing observations about old-
time fiddlers who seem to have taken composition lessons from
  aliens.
