Excellent, Val! I do love the sounds of those oval holes. You did a great job
on
it.

There it is ... the link to the really only so-so video of my grub
springs effort. It was an interesting exercise, mostly in getting over
my fear of all the technology involved and then to get a take where I
wasn't swearing or dropping my pick or something and that was short
enough to be reasonable. Anyway, guys, you've all inspired me past the
technology hurdle. Also in examining tunes with such a thoroughness.
Thanks so much. Sorry that I couldn't get a shot with my head
included. I wasn't being coy; the clips with my head in there also
involved the swearing and pick-dropping. Now if I could figure out how
to edit these videos, that would be excellent. best val

Oh, I get it. The new posts are at the end so you have to page thru
till you get to the newest. I don't see an option you can set to put
the new posts at the top. If anybody has the Rosetta Stone to that
 one, kindly clue me in.

Don, I'd only join a group that's got you as a member. So I don't know
what that says about us...

I got my stamp of approval from the head Taterness which brings up the

 a member?

Can I say something here? Can I be slightly a hard ass? Here's the
deal...this tune of the month thing is about each of us playing our
interpretation of a given song/tune. That means, whatever your muse
tells you, that's what you do. If you hear a song in a different
genre, have at it. If you want to play it on something beside
mandolin, do it. Give your emotions their due. Give your whims their
due. Give every phrase your best. Don't hold back and let the damned
censor take over your creativity before you can even get started. Come
on folks, there's enough empty musical dialogue in the world. Make a
point, take a stand, pour your heart out. I want to get to know your
musical fingerprints...

Re: country blues

2010-12-16 Thread mandoholic
I've been working pretty hard on Grub Springs, have recorded it three times now
but what's coming out
is not what I'm hearing in my head, I'm not happy with it at all. I think I
have to grind it up again a few more
times and see what comes out. This is strange for me as I'm not the least bit
bashful about my playing, I've
been know to jump right into any jam, crash and burn and come up smiling like I
meant to do it just like that.
But this is different, serious folks that know what they are doing and some
mighty fine pickers. Not so easy
to skin your ignorance in front of your heroes. I'm working on it.
