New File on Google Docs
I believe a message should have gone out alerting the group to a new file I just posted to the TaterBugMusic folder on google docs. Sorry for the duplication but I just want to make sure Google Docs is operating as expected and folks can get to the files in reasonable fashion. Let me know if this is NOT the case... otherwise I'll take your silence as a thumbs up. Once we get used to this, these notifications will be unnecassary and folks can just say I put it up on the Google Docs group folder or equivalent, and thereby celebrate in gratuitous bliss. Here's the link to the file in any case: https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B8KrIvg_Omq9MzI4ZGI4MjAtNDJlZS00YTM0LWJjMTgtN2NlZjU3YmQ4NmEwhl=en Brian -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Taterbugmando group. Re: TaterbugMandoGroup
Hey Group, Another test of the TaterbugMandoGroup google doc folder. Robin may have found the work around for the bug keeping this from working for us. Could I get a couple folks try testing this... I made Mike the owner and now it shows up under my Folder shared with me section AND, since I added myself to folder, it shows up in My folder section too. This makes sense as I'm added as the group (taterbug group) AND as an individual. So if two people could... 1. Goto https://docs.google.com/ 2. Check if you see the folder TaterbugMandoGroup in either My Folders or Folder shared with me 3. Upload a small file and select TaterbugMandoGroup as the destination 4. See if it was added to the folder as expected a. If NOT, right/ctrl-click the folder, edit the Share settings and add yourself to the list b. Repeat #3 5. Observe bliss? Crazy! This should then allow us to use this Google Doc folder to share files amongst the group (hopefully). Therefore, to join in the fun, it would seem you need to: 1. Go to Google Docs https://docs.google.com (or if that doesn't work go to the folder directlyhttps://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B8KrIvg_Omq9YjUwNjQ5YjAtYTIyNC00NjM3LTliMjItYjhlNjU0ZTk3MjU0hl=en ) 2. Download/view whatever you want and if you want to upload something (only need to do this once): 3. Edit the folder's Share settings and add yourself to the list of editors. 4. Click Upload and select the TaterbugMandoGroup folder as the destination 5. Begrudgingly endure bliss... This should become unnecissary once google fixes the bug with group sharing... but this'll work for now. Mississippi Palisades is a state park in Illinois. Chirps, like myself, is a former FIB (in mixed company: Fine Illinois Brethren) that now calls Wisconsin home... currently, the whole state of Wisconsin is painted red due to Badgers playing in the Rose Bowl today (GO BUCKY!). Sorry, I digress... Located near the confluence of the Mississippi and Apple rivers in northwestern Illinois, the 2,500-acre Mississippi Palisades State Park is rich in American Indian history. http://dnr.state.il.us/lands/landmgt/parks/r1/palisade.htm B On Jan 1, 2011, at 1:55 PM, Robin Gravina wrote: Well I started looking at it this evening, so it had better be ;-). Not sure what the rules are for choosing SOTM... but if'n y'all want a great tune to learn, I'll suggest Mississippi Palisades by Chirps Smith. I have Chirps doing it (banjo/fiddle) and it's also on the new Rhys Jones record (fiddle/piano/banjo). I could make the audio available should folks decide they'd like to do it. Kenny Baker Tribute Shows
Well, I survived the two shows I had this weekend with the band that has since become known as the Kenny Baker Tribute Band. For the folks that don't know, this ensemble was concocted by various Sconnie (that's Wisconsin) boys (and one Iowan) to play the entire Kenny Baker Plays Bill Monroe record at a few shows. The band includes two Bluegrass Boys, including Bob Black (the banjo player on the original record) and Mark Hembree (Wisconsin's lone Bluegrass Boy). It was the brainchild of fiddler Paul Keinitz and also includes myself on mando and guitar player John Fabke. Well, I'm posting this kind of in answer to a few of the recent topics on the group. As I've been sweating and working on learning the album, I can attest that my practice time for the last few weeks has been listening to, and playing along with, this record and not much else. I can also say, that after only two shows, I'm totally exhausted but had as much fun as should be legal. Playing with these boys was a pleasure and an honor. (To steal Hembree's favorite saying) Anyway, here are a few tunes for last night's show at the Richland Center City Auditorium in Richland Center, WI. A couple hundred nice folks showed up to see us and were one of the nicer audiences I've had the pleasure to play for. http://dasspunk.com/music/kenny.tribute/ Brian --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Taterbugmando group. Secrets, Profane Sugarcane
I'm a huge Elvis Costello fan. He's in my top 3 non-grass musicians of all time. When Mike told me he was going to record with him, though I don't typically buy into such crap, I asked him to get his autograph for me. He did and it's on my fridge (thanks Mike!). I wouldn't think the mando community would find this new record overly noteworthy as it doesn't feature the mando specifically. Myself, I'm finding it completely sensational. It's an absolute clinic on ensemble play. Less, without question, can be more and perhaps if I say it out loud more often, it will make it's way to my brain and fingers.
