Re: the next beta ? when ?

2005-02-14 Thread 9Val
Hello Avi,

AY My understanding of that was that a major focus - perhaps *the* major
AY focus - of the coming release was in clearing up the outstanding known
AY issues - largely reported and unresolved bugs from many previous
AY releases and long before the coming introduction of the new GUI. As I
AY misunderstood what you wrote to Jurgen, so my subsequent questions are
AY irrelevant.

No problem, I'm glad we have fixed that misunderstanding :)

I spoke about known issues in new GUI and don't think that it is
possible to clean up that issues in several betas - program is not
usable yet (even with my basic needs)
AY Pardon me, but I don't understand what you are saying here.

My point was that complete testing of new GUI will be possible only
when most of known issues will be fixed, because in other way testers
will get unusable (in every day business) program.

PS: do you know, that major parts of NFS Stef wrote 3 years ago?
AY No, I did not know that. I am not sure what your point is either. But,
AY hey, I will store that piece of information away in my mind and
AY treasure it forever. :-)

I meant, that any major changes can be delayed once, twice, and more
times. And it can take years to starting embedding it. But it has
more disadvantages

AY Anyway, thanks a lot for this reply and the clarification. You
AY answered all of my questions in a very satisfactory way.

Glad to hear that

OT: Scheduled e-mails

2005-02-14 Thread Foster, Graham
Hi TBBETA

Long long ago I proposed how TB! could be modified to allow easy to
use scheduling of e-mail sending (using the parked flag and received
date to indicate when a message should be sent). My request was
eventually subverted into the Scheduler (which is almost impossible to
use). For those of you who want a simple send in the future
capability, have a look at the following free service which I've just
been made aware of:- http://futuremail.bensinclair.com/home/index

Well, now that 9Val has courteously answered my questions and
clarified the situation, I have naturally tuned into this thread once
more. So I must thank Allie for his kind words of support and hence
also yourself Mic.

For those who had no sympathy or even antipathy, all is forgiven (at

Well, first off, yes I agree that a native feature is generally better
than something 3rd party. But I also am a big PowerPro fan - have had
it since the days before Bruce made it freeware and never regretted
paying for my license. It's just about the first thing that I install
after my operating system. And the truth is that I also use PP in
conjunction with TB, for example the PP macro feature is often more
convenient than a TB quick template - especially when the macro is
something that you use with multiple applications. So, yeah, I am also
curious about how people integrate PP with TB... as long as we have
time to spare before the next beta comes out. :-)

I'm sure that a check of the archives would turn up the original post,
but as I recall the general principle was to ...

a. export he message
b. read the exported message and grab the mid
c. open the sorting office and find the 'ignore' filter.
d. add the mid from (b) to the list of mids in the filter

When TB receives a message it checks the mids in the References:
header against those in the filter and marks 'em as read if it finds a
match.

Makes sense. But it sounds like something that could be done with a
hotkey and a fancy regexp (one that I currently would not venture out
to construct). So I don't see how PP adds much to this process. I
wonder if people have other uses - besides macros and Ignore filters -
for PP in conjunction with TB. (Of course, nine times out of 10, I
launch TB from a button on PP.)

I can't really comment, but I think that this goes back a long way,
possibly to a time before the kind of manipulation you're talking
about was possible in TB!

I dunno. My needs are fairly simple and can generally be managed with
a few filters and the odd QT. I'm sure that TB! would benefit from
some form of script engine (can you say 'WSH'?) but I imagine the list
of things that should be in the product /before/ script support is
fairly long.

SH Some time ago, someone (Allie?) published a PowerPro macro that, in

SH functionality of 'ignore thread'. I was never able to get it working
SH though.

It was Miguel Urech's idea, and it worked very well at that time.
Alas, in the new filtering system, there are some functions that
cannot (yet?) be accessed by keyboard. The PowerPro script was based
on key strokes that automatically added the MID of the thread or user
to be ignored to a previously created ignore filter. So I have to go
the cumbersome way of copying and pasting the MID or sender address
manually to my ignore filter.

No, actually flunked! Per Leif's response Gmane is not suppose to
archive messages after last weekend when using X-Archive: expiry=0
header which I do. My original test message per
mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] was archived to Gmane. This
was the purpose of the test.

Does Gmane not pass the test again?

Probably should have stated purpose in original message.

According to Lars Magne Ingebrigtsen of Gmane he was going to update the
Gmane server this last weekend. This was to correct the problem.

2005-02-14 Thread Claude Renaud
Hi,

If my memory serves me well, the following feature is something
which awaited from users since versions now.
So if you want it please vote for it :
what about adding the ability of choosing ldap adress books in the
options/preferences/system/autocomplete adress from... All adress
books !!!
 ... 1 point for me

And a new one, I read on one of the the bat! lists, that some of you
used, or would like to use, the bat! on a usb key, so what about
adding an option in the options/preferences dialog to give the
possibility to the user to store its preferences in a local .ini file
?
One time again, 1 point for me, please vote for it too !!!

Hi all,
The original quoted text below was written on 14/02/2005 14:36 my local

SH There are any number of ways of doing it; one commonly used one
SH involves the use of PowerPro. None of them are as good as a home-grown
SH generic one though, are they?

I know PowerPro (use it for some things, like software specific buttons), but
what are you referring at?
I know this is probably 'off-topic', but I for one would be interested
to see what people use PowerPro for, especially when it comes to TB!

I use PowerPro here, but mainly for system menu's and a few shortcut
key's, but I, and others for sure, would be interested in what people
use PowerPro for in TB!, or even the the workings.

Anyone willing to share their creations? What they do and exactly how
they do it?

Right. And I must admit I haven't looked at this script in months. I
have it almost (98%?) converted to NFS and I have now just tested it and
it works except for the three last lines. The problem is that I don't
remember what I was trying to do with those lines. I'll take a look when
I have some time, maybe next weekend.
